New Machete.

I am quite pleased with my Condor Golok (14" blade). I also like the Condor Parang with a longer blade. Both have very user friendly handles which has always been my objection to using a machete for more than a few minutes. These two I like a lot! If you buy either, buy the leather sheath for it that Condor makes. They are very good and well worth the price. I have a number of 12" Ontario's, but I far and away prefer the Condor. I do like the Kabar Cutlass machete if you want a short bladed chopper. The handle is pretty comfee.

I haven't by any means handled many of the available machetes, so I only recommend the ones that I actually own or use.

You really can't go wrong with any of these...
Condor
Ontario 18
Tramontina
Imacasa

In South America, a machete is a consumable commodity. They will eventually break, bend, etc.

I have the Kabar Kukri machete and it really works great. That Kukri style blade seems to really chop above it's size class.

Thanks for the information guys and gals, I still don't know what to choose. I think i'll have to sleep on it, but I'm leaning towards a Condor Golok or the Ontario 18.
