Maglite XL100 - saw one at Target the other day, I am intrigued. Tailcap switch and 85 lumens. Price was in line with what is available from Inova, would be competitive option to Surefire. Since I am a lifelong user of Maglite, I will be picking one up. Made in USA!!!!

I have often wondered why they are so far behind the curve...maybe they are manufacturing for an uneducated public. They make a great product, I have a few, but nothing compared to Surefire, Quark or Fenix. I have actually swapped all of my Mags out for Quarks and one Fenix, except for my bog ole 3 D cell blunt instrument I keep in the truck.

I have no idea. Someone just asked a similar question about Cold Steel. Both may have the same answer -- they may be very successful companies in their own right, just not focused on our specialized, competitive market.

Look at how complicated flashlights can be. I carry a Fenix L2D. Tighten the bezel, loosen the bezel. Click the tailcap on and off, softclick it to switch modes. My big Maglite: Click the button on. Turn the bezel to focus.

Now Maglite has a new small complicated light of their own. :)
I hope it's a winner.

The light looks quite large and heavy for an 83 lumen output. My iTP A3 EOS puts out 80 lumens on 1 AAA battery and weighs 1 oz. My iTP A1 EOS puts out 180 lumens on 1 CR123 battery and weighs 1.3 oz.

Thats a neat looking light and seems like a good price for the features. I like the fact that instead of cycling though a bunch of settings you sellect the one you want with a rotating switch. Good Job Mag Lite!! Will probably apeal the a larger audience then iTP, 4Seven's, Fenix and Surefire: USA Made, good brightness and good price.

Nice to have a us made light that gets 83 lumens w/o costing me 60-70 bucks

:thumbup::thumbup:

I DO like to buy 'merican when I get the chance.

Nice to see the possibility of a good performer coming from Mag. They were the leader for so long, and now tail end Charlie for just as long.

Mag has always made a good product, and over almost 30 years of using them I have had reason to use their warranty department just once. It was top notch.

I hope this one is a winner for them.

I think I'll be looking into these today. I have been carrying one of those maratac lights from county comm... except that when I went to turn it on last night it wouldn't work. It's always been sort of finicky and that was the last straw. I threw the thing in the trash in disgust. How hard is it to have a light like this:

1) Reliable
2) Good light output
3) Won't come on in your pocket
4) Doesn't use some weirdo battery that you have to special order
5) Doesn't cost multiple hundreds of dollars.

Apparently harder then I would have thought. I'm hoping that perhaps this new maglite will fit the bill, I hope they have them at my local target, in an hour or so I'm going to go check.

Inova X2 would fit your needs, just don't put the batteries in the wrong way. Didn't think I'd actually hear the LED pop, then smell the smoke. It's a nice light with a great beam profile, but without the reverse polarity protection, it went fizz. Lately I've been carrying an Icon Rogue 1, which seems to work quite well. It's a little big, but works very nicely.

I've had a few Maglites, always have a couple around, have probably given more to family and friends than all other brands combined. Simple and reliable. I hardly use my 3 C any more but AA Mini Mags are nice unobtrusive little kubotans flashlights, I meant flashlights.

I live less than two miles from the bright guy, I'll have to go down there and see what he says. I've never been to his store.

My favorite unobtrusive little... flashlight by Maglite is the AAA, which I read somewhere was designed by a kubotan practitioner.

Irrespective of whom designed it, it works extremely well in that role, yet has a 'cute' appearence, particularly in the brighter colours.

Its nice to see Maglite offer a more intuitive adjustment setting on their tail clip of what promises to be a very interesting little light.

Thanks for the tip, I'll go look that one up. In other news I went and looked at the maglite yesterday. It's to big for pocket carry in my opinion. Dang it I'm not that picky really I'm not! :grumpy:

It's a good light, and probably the most advanced light currently offered by any manufacturer.

It is the first light to use motion control to access some of the light's functions. There are no moving switches other than click on/off. All brightness levels are manipulated by moving the light via wrist action.
