I had the problem too.I'm not computer literate so I had a friend come over to do something .I have Norton but that's all . He then downloaded and scanned with Spywarebot, Ad-Aware and Housecall .That cured the problem and found a lot of other junk too .So now my computer is cleaned and disinfected !!! And I learned a few things too !!!

Malware is the reason I've had three computer hard drives replaced within a 14 month period. Just went through my last one about a week ago due to one that was a trojan no virus or malware dectection even knew about or found. My computer simply stopped working and crashed. My computer guy told me it was a trojan that he finally tracked down. Damn thing kept me from getting all my emails back, lost some pics I hadn't saved to disc yet.
They are a royal PITA. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
If your computer guy is replacing hard drives over any software issue, you need a new computer guy.
Worst case you might have to reformat a hard drive, but even that is rarely necessary if you know what you're doing. Replacing it is a ridiculous solution; it's like curing the common cold by cutting off your head.
Just run Panda Scan on your computer. It will tell you if you
do have a Trojan, a virus, spyware or malware. The scan takes hours, but it is very thorough and FREE. In many cases it will find stuff that others leave behind.
