I heard the new Man Vs Wild episondes will come out on May 2nd. Although I like SurvivorMan best, I still like ol Bear Gyrills pretty good. He is fun to watch and I have picked up some good tips. Does anyone know when or if the new Survivorman season will start? Im looking foward to that.

I don't know, I didn't find info at discovery channel's site but I only took a quick look. It's on tv right now.

I like them both but I think they are different shows in many ways. Can't wait for both to come back on

I just watched an episode. Why doesn't he carry a fixed blade? I saw him attaching a folder that looked like a Gerber Gator on a stick to act as a spear. I'd carry a Fallknivien S1, A1 or something similar.

The premise is that he takes what an average person would have, which is generally a folder and a water bottle. Of course, he takes a firesteel pretty often, which the vast majority of the world has never even seen. That, and the average person does not have a camera crew, medical team, and local survival experts to take with them on each trip. :)

I have seen many episodes of Survivorman, never one of Man vs Wild. Am I missing out?

BTW, does it make sense to make a spear rather than lash your knife to a stick?

OK, got it. Yeah, its a little hokie having the "team" with him by kind of pretending to be alone in the wild.

To his credit, in the episode I just watched, the camera man fell and he asked him if he was allright. The camera man never speaks though.

Whats hokie is having a crewmember dress up in a bear costume and acting like there is one outside your debris hut that may EAT you. Then, getting out of the debris hut, sleeping at the Holiday Inn, and laughing at anyone that thinks your show is anything more realistic than McGyver.

I think so. Man vs. Wild is very fun to watch. I might not agree with everything on the show, but I still love to watch it. Plus, there are some amazing footages compared to Les handheld cameras.

It depends on the situation. Fishing I would make a spear, but self defense against an animal, I might lash a knife, the more the range the better.

I guess I am one of the very few that enjoy watching Bear more than Les Stroud on this board.

Hey, if I had the choice, I'd take a camera crew, survival expert etc, if I'm stuck in a SHTF situation too!

Bear's show is exciting - great pace, excellent script, and they have cliffhangers before every commercial (Will Bear live through THIS????!!! Stayed tuned after these messages!).

it's the well-honed classic formula that makes for great entertainment on television.

It just ain't educational like it purports to be. But it IS fun!

I really admire and like Les Stroud's SUrvivorman show, but I agree Bear's show isn;t bad. I'd kindly like to hang with him on some of those trips. One of my major fears though, would be, having to drag his dumb butt out after he fell and broke some bones. He's bound to do it someday, with some of the dumb stunts he pulls.

I have to agree too, that Bear's cinematography is better than Stroud's. Of course, Stroud doesn;t have a helicopter hanging around to go take some great shots of this or that.

I like Les Stroud the best also. I think most of us do. I do like Bear and I like to watch his shows also. Hey it beats anything else out there thats on. Now on the Idea that putting a knife on the end of a stick to make a spear, WHY. Just sharpen a stick and make a spear that way. Dont risk losing your knife. Its to valuable in the wild.........think about it.

I used to be a fan of Man Vs. Wild. Until I saw Survivorman for the first time. It just has more of the feel of being alone, out there, suffering from heat stroke and real hunger.
I recall Les Stroud is making season 3. I'd say it takes him a lot longer to pump out episodes than Bear, given he actually has to plan the full trip, instead of stopping off by a highway to film a segment..
