I just got a Manix XL a couple of days ago. I like it but I like the orginal better.

I had an orginal in ce and a mini in ce. I ended up trading them both tho.....I used to like ce but not any more.

I made a couple of mods to my XL to make it more like the orginal. I used a dremel to grind off most of the jimping in back of the thumb ramp jimping and

and used the dremel to grind off most of the jimping on the bottom edge of the handle. I also flame treated the clip so it's a dark color like the orginal clip.

For those of you that never had or handled an orginal Manix or Mini...the knife had a 4mm thick blade, a very strong back lock,a back spacer the length of the handle, jimping

on the thumb ramp only, the handle was a little thicker, and the knife had a black clip.

The new XL is a great knife it like it a lot! I edc big folder so I know I'll use the XL a lot.

Anyone else that might try a few mods on the XL too ?

Sorry I don't know how to post pics or I would....I know a picture is worth.....

I like my XL much better with the mods I made.

Take a picture with your phone or camera
Load the picture onto your computer, somwhere easy to find.
Go to photobucket or imageshack and upload the picture to it
Copy and paste the link in your thread
Very simple.

I wish they made a standard production Manix 2 with FFG S30V blade...

Just got mine.

At first, I thought it was a little overpriced, but not after handling it.

I too would love to see the XL with the old lock back, but I am impressed.

Funny, I like the jimping.

I'm always looking for a knife which would be useful for work or self defense. One of my main interests is a knife which has a handle which is ergonomic and also grippy, meaning, not slick or too smooth.

This new XL, after some handling, would seem to fit my bill when it comes to in-hand feel. The handle scales are well textured, and the jimping is aggressive without being irritating (to my hands).

I like this knife quite a lot. It is strong without being beefy, and it has good substance in-hand. The blade is thick enough to trust. Now, if Spyderco could just make a knife of this type without the choil!

Could a Manix 2 XL owner comment on how easy or difficult it is to close it one-handed?

The handles don't look too much bigger than the standard version to me.

I find that I have to use two fingers (thumb and index) to close my Manix 2.

I just can't get a grip on it to close it with just my thumb (like the Benchmade Axis-Lock).

I'm finding the XL a bit harder to close one-handed than any of my normal size M2s (and I've got quite a few...gratuitous pic below)

The normal size Manix 2 is small enough that the bottom rests against the heel of my palm when I pinch the cage, and keeps the knife in place as I pull back to release the blade. The XL is long enough that I can't do that. One handed closure is still possible, but much more difficult.
