Just noticed at KC that they have a preorder for a new Buck Marksman with blackwashed tanto blade and different scale texture. Still 154CM for the blade. The blackwashed blade reminds me of some of my ZT models and even though I'm not really a tanto fan a new tactical option of the Marksman should appeal to more customers.

Good find bad and quick pic paste!

I am still carrying the drip point version of this knife one year later with no complaints, no issues, no problems, only love, dove, hearts, flowers and sweet happy joyous times. Love it each and every time I see it, use it, think about it, show it off or have it on the ready line for the mundane or life/death matter of instant need.

From our dear friends @ Knifecenter:

BU0831BKS: 831 Marksman Tanto
Buck Knives

Grant and Gavin Hawk have a unique lock system, the SLS (Strong Lock System, catchy huh?), and they have matched it up with this great Buck design. This US made knife also features 154CM steel with a black oxide stonewash finish and a ball bearing system for quick and quiet opening. The Marksman is a serious tactical offering from Buck.

When Buck designed the Marksman, the features included definitely deliver one of the strongest locking blades available for tactical operatives. Utilizing the locking mechanism developed by Grant and Gavin Hawk, the SLS (Strong Lock System) is one of the strongest locking mechanisms on the market. The SLS, once deployed offers the strength of a fixed blade knife. An innovative ball bearing pivot system allows for quick and easy opening by simply sliding one finger along the lock strap. Fully opening the blade securely engages the SLS. With a hefty blade of 154CM steel and a solid aluminum handle, the Marksman is designed for heavy tactical operations.

My oldie but a goodie, last year's Marksman 830 EDC for your amusement:

I am happy that your EDC has performed for you as it has for me. And, good to see you posting. I see the glass Hoyt Buck Anvil and I think that I've won an Oscar as it sparkles in the display case making the cutlery look terrific. I am so tickled. You are brilliant.

The reason I gave myself a time out from this forum was defending, in my humble opinion, the Buck name from insulting verbiage surrounding this model. Should words beyond criticism resume I won't take up that burden again here on this forum. If you or anyone else wants to help Buck you might consider contacting vendors of fake Buck knives and asking them if they are aware that their item is a fake and leaving it at that. No argument. Just that simple question. Keep the faith. Happy holidays.

not a fan of tanto. I wish they made a smaller version. Little big for my liking to EDC

Not a big tanto fan either, but I love that they are expanding the line. I would like to see that handle offered with the drop point. How about a clip-point blade too while they are at it.

You are in luck jstrange the Marksman is available right now in drop point blade configuration. See the 2nd pic in post #4 to view one of them.

Sorry, I probably worded that badly. I knew they made the drop point, I was just saying I would like to see the drop point with the new handle texture.

Yeah, a small version with the stonewashed drop point would be pretty nice I think. I've waffled on trying one just mainly due to the size closed.

I kind of like the tanto, but mostly I'm happy they're doing more with the platform. I'd love to see some different sizes, including a 4" blade.

We have been considering doing a Marksman for some time now. I love mine more than any Buck that I have. I like the ideas you all are posting, gives us some options to think about!

That's an interesting idea! I wonder if the clip point would hide flush enough at the tip?

That was might thought as well. The 110 has an upswept bolster that contains the blade tip, the Marksman has one too but it might have to be extended to accommodate a clip point blade which means a redesign of the scales. Probably not what you all are looking to attempt. Some ideas I had were a change in the color of the anodizing to something bright or contrasting like orange or green like on the Spitfires or perhaps a black coated blade and light silvery scales. Offer the blade with a different steel either S30v or perhaps 1056 or even 420HC. Perhaps a different grind such as a full flat or something with a slight recurve. A fully serrated version or partially serrated would be a first as well. Just some thoughts.

Some Marksman what ifs for your amusement:

I too would like to see this configuration. Hmmmm...I do have the power to make such things happen. :)
