They are a great knife Walkabout and congradulations on your purchase and intent on using it....here is mine which was a very early version...the grips don't have the same colour as yours.....
Mine has been used and sharpened a fair bit and when you come to sharpen yours don't worry if you are using japanese waterstones and holding the blade flat against the scandi edge...that you see an element of hollow grind in the scandi edge itself...meaning that the inner middle of the edge stays bright whilst the lower and top part are taking the contact with the stones...
I spoke to Alan Wood about it....( you could catch him on the phone back then before his order book went crazy ) and he said he gave the edge a bit of a hollow grind to help the novices who were getting these knives from Ray ( when they attended his course ) to sharpen them.
In hind sight had I known before I started sharpening on the wetstones that he had done this I would have used my Spyderco sharp-maker for the first few touch ups to the edge and gone to the wet stones after a few months...that way I would have saved a bit of time...as it was I decided to take the hollow grind down to flat...more or less from the off...and probably wasted a bit of steel on the edge...although it is'nt much in terms of the life of the knife...but you might as well benefit from my trial and error...
After a while of using the original sheath which came with it above I decided to make my own after I found a useful colour combo swedish firesteel on the "knivesshipfree" web site...I think they still sell them...and whilst the wood is'nt the same type it is close enough colour wise to make for a decent "pairing"....
Enjoy the knife...it is very comfortable in hand...and is always a talking point whenever I use mine...as it seems to be recognised everywhere
I would keep a print out of the sale though in terms of insuring it on your house contents or whatever...you might well need proof of value because they have gone up a lot on the secondary market from the time I got mine...and if you paid more for it I would'nt give it any second doubts...it will hold it's value well and will give you great satisfaction in owning it.
