Hi guys, I've been lurking around here for a little while gleaning knowledge and such from the hive.
I just ordered up my first Becker, a BK2, to serve as my new EDC blade.
This knife will replace my previous EDC fixed blade, an Ontario Aircrew survival knife I inherited from my grandfather. Sadly it died a few weeks ago while the wife and I were canoeing on the Chatahoochie. What started as a gentle paddle on a clear day turned dangerous when a pop up thunderstorm turned the meandering current in to a torrent. Unable to find a suitable pull off (and admittedly a little stubbornness on my part) lead us to fight our way a little further. Eventually we ended up sideways on a rock and after fighting hard for several minutes, capsized. The pommel of my Ontario got hung up on the side of the boat and had me hung up awkwardly for a moment till the ancient leather sheath finally gave way and my heirloom was lost.
Sad as it is, I believe knives are meant to be used and Grandpa would have been happy I got so much use out of it.
Anyways, thanks everyone for all the advice, I look forward to learning from ya'll in the future.
