New member. Help me choose an affordable manual flipper

Grownstar, you should check out the video that 9blades posted. Shows a forumite who had indeed turned a cryo into a manual flipper, among other changes. It's definitely a more involved process than simply removing the torsion bar and probably more of a project than the OP is looking for, but definitely doable. He really turned that cryo into an (even more) excellent little knife.

Just checked it out, man. Thanks for that headsup. And I agree, it is an excellent little knife.

I really liked the shallot, just wished the handles had a little more traction.

You can always add some grip tape to the scales. I've seen a nice looking Shallot with a similar Trac-Tec pattern as the Blur.

Good point on the grip tape, after I clear the current short list, I'll have to pick up another shallot and give it a go.

Thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate it. I'm now primarily deciding between the skyline and the buck vantage. I have seen some reviews of the buck vantage select that say the flippers and alignment can be hit or miss. Is this true for the vantage force as well?
I will also keep an eye on the new kershaws.
Thanks again

I have a skyline ant a small and large Buck Vantage. While I like the Skyline the Buck is a far better knife in my opinion.

Saw that same knife, don't remember who's it was but it did look good. I said the same thing in the thread he posted it in: that it looked like a blur with how he cut the grip tape.

I have a ripple, skyline, leek, cryo and lots of other inexpensive flippers (cryo and leek are not manuals) and while all of them are good the JYD is by far the best. When you add that to the fact it has a composite blade and is super well made it is the clear victor in my opinion. The only pitfall for the jyd is that the clip sucks, but you'll get over it. Buy the JYD blem and don't ever look back.

I think I'm going to get the Vantage or the Skyline now and save up and buy the JYD later.

So, which would you guys
choose between the Buck Vantage Avid, the Buck Vantage Force or the Skyline?

Get the Buck Vantage Force Pro or the Buck Vantage Pro. It's a much more substantial knife than the Skyline.

I've had a lot better experience with the fit and finish on my kershaws lately than on my bucks, I know you said you want a reliable flipper, what's going to be the main use this knife is going to see?

The main use will be EDC. So usual daily tasks as well as some hunting tasks. So all in all a pretty hard working EDC.

I also like to mess around with manual flipper knives. Lol

Kershaw Chill or Buck Vantage.

Kershaw Chill is better than the Skyline from an EDC perspective; it`s lighter, almost a half inch shorter when closed, yet has the same blade length as the skyline. The Chill has a great blade/handle ratio, and that's what makes it such a sweet knife. Can be had for around $20 too

I'd recommend the Skyline, and I really don't like Skylines  I got a Vantage Avid this week, and the fit and finish is absolutely horrendous. Flipping action is pretty bad too, but taking it apart and cleaning it helped just a little. The only benefit I see of the Buck is the blade, the bos heat treat is fantastic. If I could recommend something else, I'd throw in another vote for the Ripple :D

While I really like the Ripple (haven't handled the chill). I am looking for a more robust knife as I already have a slim lightweight EDC that I like (Kershaw Leek).

I own a Kershaw skyline and find myself carrying it more often than my $200+ folders.

Finally made a decision and ordered a Buck Vantage Avid today. The Skyline and Ripple are next on my list.
Thank you all for your suggestions.
