Hi ... I'm Ron Jeffries. Old guy. Collected some nice knives some years back, now not so much.

I'm lightening ship a bit and am interested in ways to pass on some of my good stuff to people who'd like to have it. I've dropped a note to Arizona Custom Knives describing what I have, and will probably get in touch with AG Russell's outfit -- Cutting Edge or something like that if I recall.

I believe the FAQ says I can't sell here, and no intention of breaking that rule. I am interested, however, in ideas on who to get in touch with to consign things or other approaches I might take.

I've got a lot of junk, but a few lovely things from Paul Fox, Billy Mace Imel, Virgil England, and others.

So anyway, hi, here I am, and I look forward to seeing what's going on here!

Regards,

Ron

Honestly, I think you should stay a while. It's a fun forum. You just may give in and pay for a gold membership to sell on the forum yourself. It's worth it in my opinion you get to keep all the profit and for $30 for the one year membership it's worth it.

I don't know what you have btw but I would think a Billy Mace wharnie would go like hotcakes! Lol.

Hi Ron, welcome.
Pay $30 for a gold membership and you can sell your whole collection here with no consignment fees....not to mention, very QUICKLY.

Hi Ron welcome ...as stated you can sell here with the right membership and are alot of good people here. You may want to hang out awhile and check out some of the sub forums.

WELCOME!

Lots of good stuff here and in the subforums as well as the Knife Exchange.

Kick back, relax, explore, and share your experience.

You will make up that $30 very quickly if you get a GOLD membership and can buy/sell/trade.
Consignment rates are NOT cheap. I just sent a check for $55 to the bay for selling a couple of folders, and that worked out to about 15%. I've bought/sold/traded several hundred folders and fixed blades, on the Exchange section of this forum, over the last three yrs or so, for a total cost of about $100 in membership fees. Can't beat that with a stick.
BTW, you will also meet some very nice folks on this forum, and your knowledge base will increase a bunch.
A win-win for you.

Thanks for welcome. Makes sense to me: I didn't realize one could sign up to sell things for so little $$. I have no idea whether any of these things will bring enough to make it worth boxing them up (and not having them to look at) but I do need to lighten ship a bit. And a pal of mine who is going to take away some books for me has a wife who's a photographer and she wants to take pics of the knives anyway.

Sounds worth a try. Thanks! Meanwhile I'll keep browsing and looking. Lots to see here ...

If you sell on eBay they charge 10% per transaction so if you have expensive knives or a lot to sell you're better off selling here.

Inspired, if that's the word I'm looking for, I put an article on my web site with pics of my Chris Reeve fixed-blade knife, and some inexpensive Virgil England multiples made in China. Nice fantasy knives for display purposes.

I'll also try embedding a picture link here, to see what happens, and would greatly appreciate any feedback on what I've done so far. As it says in the article, one learning is to put down something for scale. Another may be that I need a newer phone. :)

Here's the article.

Pictures below, one full size (except cropped), other smallified. Thanks for any advice!

Nice work. It looks like you have the picture thing figured out! I for one would love to see you sell your knives here on BF. There are a lot of members here that would kill for that CRK alone. And yes, please stick around awhile, this is a great community for sure!

Again, welcome to BF!

Well, I don't need anybody offed just now, but I can imagine that there's some amount of cash that would catch my interest, as I am trying to lighten ship a bit here on my shelves. I have no idea what any of my knives are worth and don't have much of a sense of how to find out. I've looked at some CKR prices on the web, most for folders, so that's a bit of a clue at least.

Thanks!

The hardest part about selling older custom knives is determining an appropriate value, but with a gold membership you can ask people here for input on the value. Keep in mind that tastes of the knife buyers can be fickle and it is hard to understand what out of your collection will be desirable and what will not.

Good to see an experienced knife knut come around, Mr. Jeffries! I ninth or tenth the opinion that a gold membership is a brilliant way to instantly sell items, via the exchange. As for your concern of value determination, I submit that "value" is simply what a person deems appropriate for an item given their circumstances and level of demand. As such, there would be zero downside to you putting a piece up for your "dream" number, and if it doesn't sell, you can easily and quickly drop the price by editing your sale thread. Also, you'll find many prospective buyers will contact you via PM directly with offers and trades as a result of your listing, which may help to gauge interest.

I signed up for Gold last night. Guess it takes a while before it shows up on profile?

To update to gold, you need to go to 'settings' top right. Under 'my account" on the left, select 'permission groups'. You can change it there.

OK, advise me, please ...

As I mentioned, I'm thinking of reducing my collection. The plan is a few things to display on my shelves and the rest should go. I went Gold per your advice, and started a section on my web site to put pics up. And as practice, I put a thread about a Chris Reeve knife that I just unpacked, since I had it in my hand. (New flooring; everything in boxes; long story.)

A few people have expressed interest in buying the knife. So here's what I'm wondering. I understand that I could just pick a price and list it in the suitable exchange forum. If someone bites, figure out money transfer, ship the knife. Probably Paypal, I suppose. (I have Paypal mostly to buy stuff, Dwolla for book royalties, cash.me just because it was there.)

I assume that if I display a knife in a display forum and someone PMs me and wants it, I can cut a deal right there.

Is there a way here that's considered OK, to do a sort of an auction thing, with some give and take between seller and would-be buyers? Or is that considered to be too tacky, you just set a price or accept an offer, or you don't?

Inquiring minds. I've never sold a knife, ever, and want to fit in with the group's style. Thanks!
