New Member. Intro and question about selling

I wonder if this inlay was set in there with 3M like production Sebs? Posted this link to the CRK sub-forum btw.

Inspired, if that's the word I'm looking for, I put an article on my web site with pics of my Chris Reeve fixed-blade knife, and some inexpensive Virgil England multiples made in China. Nice fantasy knives for display purposes.

I'll also try embedding a picture link here, to see what happens, and would greatly appreciate any feedback on what I've done so far. As it says in the article, one learning is to put down something for scale. Another may be that I need a newer phone. :)

Here's the article.

Pictures below, one full size (except cropped), other smallified. Thanks for any advice!

OK, advise me, please ...

As I mentioned, I'm thinking of reducing my collection. The plan is a few things to display on my shelves and the rest should go. I went Gold per your advice, and started a section on my web site to put pics up. And as practice, I put a thread about a Chris Reeve knife that I just unpacked, since I had it in my hand. (New flooring; everything in boxes; long story.)

A few people have expressed interest in buying the knife. So here's what I'm wondering. I understand that I could just pick a price and list it in the suitable exchange forum. If someone bites, figure out money transfer, ship the knife. Probably Paypal, I suppose. (I have Paypal mostly to buy stuff, Dwolla for book royalties, cash.me just because it was there.)

I assume that if I display a knife in a display forum and someone PMs me and wants it, I can cut a deal right there.

Is there a way here that's considered OK, to do a sort of an auction thing, with some give and take between seller and would-be buyers? Or is that considered to be too tacky, you just set a price or accept an offer, or you don't?

Inquiring minds. I've never sold a knife, ever, and want to fit in with the group's style. Thanks!

Here, I think we mostly do the list a price thing. You would need to list it on the "Exchange". Whether this one should be listed in the "production fixed knife" thread or the "custom knife" thread, I am not too sure. I would guess that it qualifies for both?? You may have better luck in the "Custom" thread though.

i think it would be ok to list a price that you think is excessive and say OBO. Maybe explain in your ad that you don't know the actual value of this one of a kind knife and will entertain all offers for a day or so.

I also think that if you were able to get the knife authenticated by Chris Reeve and maybe even get the story of when and how the knife was built, it would go a long way in getting what you are hoping for it.

I hate to say this, but if you want an auction format, eBay may be the place...

Here is the best advise: you should ask a moderator if my ill advised opinion on this would be acceptable. They will be able to give you the correct answers.

This should answer all your questions if read carefully:

Auctioning is a big no-no. You can list it high and drop as circumstances demand, like I mentioned, but that's it. PayPal is used in 49 out of 50 transactions (some curmudgeons demand money orders), so go with that. And yes, a deal can be made "behind the scenes" without incident...that's the seller's prerogative.

Thanks Craig!

The bright red letters do say that one can ask "What's this worth", with Gold or above status. That may turn out to be helpful as I figure out what I might want to let go.

Thanks again,
