New member. Just sharing a Ka-Bar restoration project

Thanks! 😄

You should see my rifle work. ;)

Wait, what happened with the rifle? Was it the scope? Can't start a story and not have an ending!

I noticed image distortion with my SWFA 10x scope that I use as a test scope. I was aiming at a black diamond with a smaller orange diamond in the center. The orange diamond looked more like a circle and it was not centered in the black diamond. It was off center in the 5 o’clock direction. Distance was 200 yards and parallax was adjusted as best as I could.

I do believe accuracy suffered as a result. What is being described is a bad case of Chromatic Aberration (CA). CA will become more apparent as you move away from the center of the lens, in other words, as you bend the light more.

Here's an illustration of how colors of an image shift position at the same focus point.

But I was also seeing focus at different focal lengths like in this illustration...

Given both of those conditions, I was seeing one color blurry and offset from another color that was on the same sheet of paper.

Here's a recent range report from the owner. He put on a high quality scope and It's shooting very nicely!

Tony.

Nice job!

I have an older Estwing hammer/hatchet with leather handle. Its not to bad, just needs a little sanding and a clear coat put back on.

This gave me a little motivation

Up to you, but the clear coat will just flake off again. I personally would use shoe polish. Cordova is a nice color.

I stopped buying the Estwing leather handles, I’ve had much better luck with their blue rubber.
