I'm sorry to just jump in with no introduction and a question, but ..

I have a Lansky sharpening stone (ceramic I believe) that I bought at Smokey Mountain Knife Works (Sevierville, TN) 3 or 4 years ago. I recently used it to sharpen a custom Shear Blade that we service all over the USA. If worked great!

Here's my problem, I can't find it on the Smokey Mountain Knife website and all my searches (including Thomas Register) have come up empty.

Does anyone know the complete name of Lansky or the website?

If not, let me describe the sharpener that I have, and maybe someone can come close. I need about sixty of them in two weeks.

It's triangular, about 1/2" per side, has a groove down one face (for fish hooks), is about 4" long, grey with green (designating the "grit") "rubber" caps on each end.

ANY help would be muchly appreciated. I'd be glad to reciprocate on guitar info at guitarplayer.com "Guitar Forum" where I'm a regular.

Thanks for anything you can do for me, Dave.:D

Welcome to the forums Dave! The Smokey Mountain Knife Works website is www.eknifeworks.com , although i couldn't find that particular sharpener on their website. i did find a page with it on the Lansky website, the page is http://lansky.com/mini_frame.html . I'm not sure where you'd find the best price on it but if you search for it i'm sure you could find someplace that sells them for a reasonable price. The name of it is the Mini Dog Bone Crock Stick Sharpener. The name would lead me to believe there's also a bigger version of it but i didn't see it on the site. Another quality sharpening product is the Spyderco Tri angle sharpener, product number 204, which is very favored on these forums. Hope i was of help.

edit: guess i wasn't quick enough! also, there are at least a few different products that are similar to the one you described, one made by cold steel and i'm not sure who makes the others, but you might look into them.

The Gatco Tri-Seps is practically the same as your Lansky dogbone. It also comes in a diamond-coated version. I have both but I rely on the gray medium grit mostly.

Thank you guys. Great info, great timing. I am a knife fanatic too, so you'll probably see me once and a while.

I was thinking about making a (custom) knife, but I've decided to make a guitar instead (dilusions of grander).

Thanks again, Dave.:D

Esav,

Do you know the website, or more complete name for the manufacturer of the Gatco Tri-Seps?

Thanks for any help you can lend, Dave.

To hell with the geeeetar,MAKE THE KNIFE!!! And welcome to the forum, guy. Everything said here is gospel, even what all us bastids tell you.

Thanks again guys. A really great response from what has to be a great bunch of guys.

The GATCO Tri-Seps does look just like the Lansky Dog Bone.

Sorry, but I'm still stoked up on building a guitar. Just finished reading an article on how the legnth of the string (neck) affects the tone of the guitar.

I'll probably get 'round to it', makeing a knife that is, eventually.

Thanks again for all the help, Dave.
