New Member with questions!

Ok, this is getting bad! I've purchased 4 spydercos today from the classifieds section on the forum!

Endura 4 -combo edge -used
Ladybug vg10 -bnib
Manbug vg10 -bnib
Manix 2 cmp s30v -bnib

I'll wait a few days and see if a sage 1 pops up. If not ill order from knifeworks.

All pretty classic choices there, a fine start!

When it comes to knives, I'm all about the exchange. Most knives on there are like new in box, if not just new in box, so you're really not losing anything. Even the "users" are hardly used up, they just need a quick spit shine. It's not like you're buying a car which are all inevitably ticking time bombs, it's a piece of metal with a handle on it! Especially if you're going to start out fast, I'd see what kinda sweet deals you can get on here so you can test drive these knives without putting too much money into it.

Now you need to expand from spyderco :)

Will do after buying all spydercos folders! Ok maybe not all of them but they have so many damn good choices! They really have blanketed the market with a knife for just about every need!

Hi OP,

I suggest a SAK (Swiss Army Knife) for a first (or otherwise) EDC as they are most likely to be on your person when needed. I highly suggest the basic "Tinker" for starters. Later.....once the OCD kicks in.....for a smaller than "Tinker".....a "Recruit" or....no wait......a....."CADET".....wait wait.....perhaps the 84mm (small) "Tinker".....than again.....perhaps I should go LARGER than the "Tinker"......
(it's only one more layer) yes....I should get either a "HIKER/CAMPER". At any rate, this is how my mind works. Welcome to the MADNESS! Oooh....the "SOLIDER" looks nice!

I have a Spyderco Sage 1. It was the second tactical knife I purchased, after my first Sebenza. It's a great knife. Opens easy, rides low and light in the pocket, and is a quality blade. Stays sharp. I think it would be an excellent EDC knife.

You might consider getting a traditional stockman or jack style folder like a Buck, Case, Boker, Eye Brand, or GEC for EDC when the tactical blade may not work.

Memphis Tiger,
What classifies a knife to be tactical vs traditional?

Amazon is fine for knives as long as you go directly through amazon and not a secondary seller that's using amazon to sell their stuff.

OP, I'd recommend a DMT Aligner. Their kits are great, and come with diamond stones. The stones, IMHO are much better than the sticks that come with the spyderco sharpmaker. DMT makes some of the best stones out there.

I would keep your eyes on the exchange here on bladefourms. You never know what is going to pop up. I would stay away from amazon for knives. Stick to the reputable dealers. I like knifeworks and bladehq.

The more I play with the ones I have the more I like them. I will recommend an Opinel to try out. Cheap and good !

Found a very nice Sage 1 from a member here in BF! Thanks for all the help and guidance fellas. I still have a lot to learn but I've been reading every night.

7 days and 7 new knives is that about right?

I told you guys I have an addictive personality! This week should be like Christmas with deliveries! I already received the Endura 4 which was a noted as a well used knife. After a complete tear down, cleaning and oil it's like new. Didn't care for the black clip not matching anything on the knife and half worn off. I removed the paint with aircraft remover and polished her up.

The Endura is a very good knife for the money. I have two of them (plain edge and fully serrated). I found that I prefer the smaller Delica for EDC. I don't care for partially serrated blades. Tried that and went pretty much plain of fully serrated.

I would buy a knife from one of the dealer sponsors here. You should get a price that is close to Amazon prices. The problem I see with Amazon is that they do a wonderful job of taking orders, packaging, and shipping promptly, but you could buy a copy unsuspecting and you might not even know it. I have ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon by the way. Don't believe I have purchased a knife through them yet however. I tend to gravitate to about three knife dealers for online orders and yes, sometimes I pay a little more.

As AntDog said, pace yourself.

I just looked at the list you have already ordered..... yep, pace yourself. But I know how it is especially when you are used to buying guns that are much more expensive. You can often buy a lot of knives for the price of a good firearm.
