I have been lurking for a while on blade forums. I just joined up and this will be my 1st post. I owned several camillus beckers back in the day, to include a brute. Since then I see KA-bar has taken over the line. I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and would like to get my hands on a BK-7 or BK-2, or even the small one which would actually be the most practical one, any advice on the becker line? thanks in advance

you came to the right place, and let me be the first to thank you for your service. I have the bk2 now and the bk11, while i havent used the bk2, i find myself looking for things to use the 11 on. either way you cant go wrong. alot of people prefer the bk14 over the bk11 because you get a little more finger room. Theres tons of people here that can help you in deciding which is right for you.

Welcome. I haven't been out FOB Sal ways for a while, but it's nice to see it's still here /sarcasm. But honestly I would wait on the Becker purchase until you get back State side. Get a Condor Bushlore to fill your needs. I would just hate to see a Becker get "donated" to some frumpy security screener.

well honestly Im a realist and going on my 3rd deployment, I know the knife wont be needed to engage the enemy with hand to hand combat. However I want a knife that i can touch and it will at least make me feel better if that makes sense. I currently EDC a leatherman wave and a gerber folder, i think its called an LST, not sure, I can post a pic later to narrow it down. I negelected to bring over any fix blades and well i regret that decision for the mere face that I think I would feel more at ease having one. So therefore I'm in the market for such!

Good point, Ill proably mail all my cool stuff back anyhow, I've had better luck doing that in the past. But yea Sal is still here, they knocked the roof off of the DFAC in June b4 I got here, but it aint a bad place over all. Ive been in a lot worse

Welcome and thanks for your service man. Get a 2, few things are more comfortingly manly to fondle :D

After further research (google) I think I want a BK-16 with a drop point. Can you all point me in the right direction to the most reliable place to get one of these.

Tomars, Tomars all the way.

http://www.tomarskabars.com/

They are a BFC approved vendor so linking and talking about them is okay, Tomars is an awesome way to get your Ka-Bars.

RBs right...They've got the best prices on Ka-Bar knives that I've found so far. International shipping from them is pricey but from the money you saved from the actual blade itself it does make it worthwhile to order from them.

+1 on Tomars & if you decide you want micarta check out Saints Cutlery. Kabar doesn't have micarta scales available yet.

Tomars rules IMO. I've gotten most of my Beckers from them in less then 3 days almost every time! Not sure how long the shipping to Afghanistan would take but probably considerably longer then 3 days

Thanks for your service btw. If I was a solider I think I'd go for a BK17 but I don't much about the military or soldiering type stuff other then the fact that you guys use fascinating equipment and gear.

Thank you for the service! The 16 will serve you well.(as would any of the Becker line)
Tomars is definitely an A+ dealer.

Well, the place you go I would go with a BK 7, which has good attributes if used for defense..

I love my 16 and my 2, but I got an itch for an 11 and a 7. I think a 7 will do you well and a 14, the extra finger room on a 14 will be more useful over the 11 since your deployed and if you wear gloves often, and thanks for your service!

Honestly I'd talk to K-9 or Nick about getting a straight swedge 17. I think it was Nick that did it. Either way, it turned out brilliantly and I would definitely recommend that. Even un-modified I would most likely recommend the 17. Think of it as a modernized 1217(I think that was the designation).
