and I have to say I am really impressed with this knife and its quality. What a beautiful knife. I purchased the partially serrated version and got a good deal at $94.00. Very pleased to say the least. This is also the sharpest knife I have ever handled. I will be ordering a Spyderco Sharpmaker to keep the edge on this and any other knife I own.

Is there anything I need to know about the Military model? I know not to pry anything with the tip as well as not to carry it in NYC given their 4" length restriction. I do plan to make it my EDC knife and it is so light I don't even realize it is in my pocket.

Any recommendations or guidance on how often to lubricate the knife and with what lubricant? So far I have been closing the knife one handed with my right hand where I slide the liner lock to the left with my thumb and then move the blade slightly forward, about half an inch, with my index finger pushing against the rear top of the blade and then capturing the thumb hole with the end of my thumb and rotating it back into the handle. Is there a better way?

Now I need a slightly smaller pocket knife for those days visiting NYC. Any suggestions? Para Military, Mini Manix or perhaps the Benchmade Griptilian come to mind but I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Periodic visual inspections are useful and easy with the Military open design. Wash with hot water and soap if necessary, dry with hair dryer or computer air can if you don't have an air compressor. Use a quality lubricant of your choice. Personally I use CLP because it works and I have a giant spray bottle for my firearms.

Thanks for the advice. Do you need to put a light coating of oil or CLP on the blade itself from time to time, similar to what is done on pistols to prevent rust? Or is this unnecessary with S30V steel?

Thanks again.

If it makes you feel better, and if you enjoy having your blade coated with pocket lint, oil that dude down. :D

Sorry, I know that sounded snide, I have a strange sense of humor. :o

Unless you live next to a salt marsh, oiling S30V is unnecessary. It is quite rust resistant, second only to H1 in tests a forum member has posted on the Spyderco factory forum. Tuff Cloth will leave a better protection without attracting dust (just in case you DO live next to a salt marsh :D )

If you like that Military, the Para should make a good companion for those trips into the City.

I would also suggest getting a parmailitary for carry in NYC. I have had one for a few months and it has been my main EDC since then. I am sure you will be pleased with the para. You may even find that there very little if not nothing the full size can do that that the para can't.

The Military is genius.

I highly recommend a Caly 3 for your smaller EDC needs. I find it to be miles more refined then the Para.

That's me. Millie for the bush and Caly3 for civilisation. Still fond of my Native 3 though......
