New Military tip is very fragile..be careful.

I was using the tip of my new S30V Military to scratch the top of a piece of wood and a tiny bit of the tip broke off!! I ended up using a diamond hone to reshape the tip a bit, but it still doesn't have that "needle like" tip when it was new. I'm thinking about sending it to Spyderco and letting them resharpen it...hoping this will correct the problem. (Anyone have experience with this?)

So, if you have a new Military, be careful with the tip. The needle tip is useful, but kind of fragile.

I've had my Military for years man and never had a problem with the "fragile" tip. Maybe i've never used mine as a screw driver, so I've been very lucky

Broke the very tip off my Paramilitary with very little force last night, popping the optic out of a flashlight-something I could do with my fingernail if I could get it in there. I had done a bunch of heavy cutting chores with the knife at work without incident-far worse than I would do with an EDC knife, but that needle tip can't handle any kind of lateral load. I'm talking about the very tip, the edge. After an Edge-Pro session, the knife has a needle sharp tip again, but blending into the spine a little, it is stouter, and I don't anticipate any more problems.
I've bent a custom S30V knife behind the tip before, without breaking it, but am not surprised to hear about the Military tip, which is basically an extended and unsupported part of the edge if it's like my Para's, breaking easily.
The Paramilitary is such an outstanding knife that it already has me thinking of trying a new S30V Military, some of the early versions of which I didn't like for various reasons.
Another knife...just what I need
:D

From others descriptions, I would think the tips on some are experiencing some brittleness issues. "Snapped off"?

One mentioned the tip bent, the rest have stated the tips broke off under minimal pressure, and certainly not something considered too much for a working/defensive knife of this kind.

I have had a few Millies but now no longer carry linerlocks so this model is out for EDC for me at this time [ a non-issue where tip strength is concerned on mine as they never had hard use or broke the tips ].

One must remember however that if you want the needle point like the police and millies, it will less than ideal in tip strength vs. say a Chinook 1 or 11 type designs.

I'd send it back if it was mine [ Sal and the crew will make them right I'm sure ], then trade it out for something with a more substantial tip in it's design if that bothers you.

I'll take the lockback C11 over the thin tipped models anyday for durability.
One must trust their equipment to not fail at the worst of times, I have a problem trusting the linerlock and the thin tipped options.

All my Spydies are used hard. Endura has lost 1/32nd of its tip. Police no problem. Endura II no problem. Navigator no problem. I have to tell you the loss of the Endura tip was my fault no question about it. Native III pending, not anticipating any trouble. ;)

The 440V Miltary in my pocket has had both the tip and two teeth snap off. Disappointing in that while a drop from less than waist height onto a hard surface (coffee table height) snapped the tip I cannot for the life of me recall abusing the teeth. Oh well... I'm a Spyderco fan, that won't change because of these incidents, and a C2 is on the way.

Haven't had any problems with my Para yet. I thought that the tip seemed pretty robust compared to the Delica.
