I just bought a pantograph 3D milling machine on Ebay. I thought it was a table-top machine. Since it was local, I drove over to look at it.
Boy, was I wrong! It's huge. I'm not sure I can even make room for it in my shop, but I'm sure going to try.

How do you learn to run one of these mills? Trial and error? Is there any online wips or how to is out there on how to operate a panograph mill?

Definitely an iterating machine.

I wish I had one.
There was one out of a university here - all the tooling goodies went with it - missed it

Mine is similar, except that it will also cut in a 3rd dimension. While you can set the cutter depth for engraving/cutting to a certain depth, the spindle will also follow up/down movements of the stylus, allowing 3 dimensional cuts.
As far as learning how to use one, unless you know someone who is fluent in the operation of these machines, you're on your own. I haven't done much searching on the Internet, as each machine has slight differences-and I want to explore mine to see what is applicable.

The law is after you Bill. You stole that one. I just paid $600 for a 2D motorized New Hermes tabletop unit. But it came with 8 trays of letters and 30 new cutters. Inlays and s-curved bolsters coming soon.
I can't wait to see what you do with yours.

Brian,
Your New Hermes will not rotary-cut metal (for long, anyway.) The spindle bearings are not made for it.
However, type sets go for $75-$150 each, so you did well. I was actually looking for one of the larger TX series New Hermes machines when I found this. I have a couple of the GM models, but needed a larger one.

Okay, you've shown your new mill. Now you have to show some work you do on it.

No- I HAVE to get it here, and I HAVE to figure out where to put it. I think I'll have to rip out work benches in the shop to get it in there. But, I'll have to wait for the ground to dry out before I can get it TO the shop. It may just end up in my garage.
Then, I'll figure out how to use it.
THEN I'll show the work I'm doing on it!
