New Mini Bedlam. Irritated. Now happy.

Got the Mini Bedlam today. I've been so excited for this model. That didn't last. The blade is rubbing the liner so hard that finish has already been removed from the liner. Not to mention the swedges are ground unevenly. Otherwise I love this thing. It's gorgeous. I've never returned a knife or even contacted customer service. And I own a lot of knives including 29 Benchmade knives. I'm not picky. But how does this get through QC?

Absolutely unacceptable quality. I'd recommend getting a refund or replacement directly from the retailer, and to not bother spending time and money getting Benchmade's warranty department to try to fix it.

I've initiated a return with BHQ. Now that I'm off work and had more time to look at it, I believe the blade is seriously warped. It might also be a bit off centered in the same direction only making matters worse.

It looks like the blade is actually warped towards the right side in this pic. Definitely get it replaced.

That's what I was thinking!

While I appreciate the idea of 'centered precision', I usually OCD eye roll (as redundent, most are that should be) and move on. This just looks wilted.

Maybe they sent you the one for cutting around corners. Made for a left handers?😅

You know what, i bet you accidently checked BENTley, instead of Bedlam. Easy mistake.

Not laughing at your pain. This is just so obviously bad, terribly wrong...ludicrous speed? ....insane clown posse?

You gotta wonder what caused the 'I'm over it' attitude that had the Benchmade guy, pin this one together and cram it in a box.

It's late, little punchy....looking at this thing...and the 'hey, does this seem right to you guys'....just thowing it past you to make sure....the whole thing has me, literally, chuckling out loud.

I'm glad you got it 'ironed' out. 😁

Good call.

For future reference, I've had really good luck with using the comments field in all my online knife orders to ask the retailer to check the knife and get me a good one. I usually say something like, "Please ensure blade is centered, free of vertical and horizontal play, and has even grinds." It seems like it has seriously cut down on the number of lemons I've received over the years.

I've even had customer service reps call me before shipping a knife to double-check with me that their particular sample is okay.

100%, I do this too and it works really well.

TBH production knives are a commodity and I've largely stopped ordering from dealers who won't inspect a reasonably expensive knife (this certainly qualifies). The commodity will be the same, so I'd rather get it from a dealer who provides a service that's important to me.

Asking the dealer to take a quick look is definitely a good suggestion. It can save a lot of frustration.

BHQ has been great. Return label has been sent already and a replacement will be on the way. They've made it about as easy as possible.

I wonder if I could ask you to possibly post a picture of the open Mini Bedlam in your hand after you receive the replacement. I too am in the market for one. My full size Bedlam is huuuge :)

Thank you friend.

No problem at all.

If you want any specific comparison shots with other Benchmades or other knives, just say the word.

You are reading my mind :-)

Should you have access to a full sized Griptilian and a Super Freek, a comparison shot would be most excellent. Many thanks.

So the replacement Mini Bedlam came in today and fit and finish are excellent. The centering is dead on, too. Comparison and in hand pics as promised. I have average sized hands. There's plenty of room on the handle but it also affords a very strong grip due to the contouring. Great ergos all around.
