I went back a few quick pages and saw nothing on this. At walmart I found an LED conversion kit for the Mini Maglight. Made by Nite Ize. Changes it into a 3 LED light.
I know most are using more powerfull lights, but a few of us only need low power. Take care, guy

NIte Ize minimag conversion kit has been well received over at Candle Power Forums http://candlepowerforums.com/vb/ Not too expensive and puts out low light for a decent amount of time. Anyhow, just head over there and do a search for Nite Ize and you'll get lots of information.

I'm real happy with mine. Easy to install. Thanks for the link. guy

I believe they also have a kit that gives you the LED conversion AND a clicker tailcap.

Not too bad a setup. I think though it is the shape of the included reflector that does not help to maximize its potential. This is necessary due to the 3 LED setup. The clickie switch works okay. Overall a good quality kit at only $9 at www.countycomm.com But I wouldn' t intend to use it as emergency gear or have it in my BOB.

Now one of the only games in town for low cost and economical running drop-in conversions for the venerable MiniMag 2AA.

Unfortunately my preference is now much harder to get:

MJLED drop-in for MiniMag 2AA (

I too, am considering a drop-in conversion for my Mini-Maglite and so far the most convincing item that I've found is the Opalec Newbeam. The Nite-Ize has a handsome price tag, however the Opalec has an excellent evaluation on flashlightreviews.com.

Decisions, decisions...

the led conversion is a nice little trinket, but too heavy, too dim, and too expensive for what it is...

You're better off with one of the pre-Gerber CMG infinity tasklights

Check out the Terralux Ministar II at Luxeon and Berkelypoint and then get it somewhere cheap like Bright Guy .

I've got both and like them very much. The newbeam seems to be more difused light and the ministar is focusable and a bit brighter.

The Terralux's runtime is half of what the Opalec has, however. It's pretty much a trade-off between brightness, price, runtime and other little factors when these issues arise. I tend to go to the middle of the road and so far, the Opalec option is the best value.

Not sure I agree with your statement, respectfully though. Too heavy, too dim, too expensive? It's a minimag, as far as I know they are not very heavy even loaded with lithiums. Too dim, seems to me that a keychain light is pretty useful and they are not real flame throwers. Enough light to get you around nicely in the dark or even work on a computer tower. Too expensive, $7-$9 is not what I would call very expensive for a light conversion kit that (supposedly) gets 20 hours of light from two inexpensive, readily available AA alkaline batteries.

My most used lights are the dimmer, single and some mutiple LED lights that have long run times.

Just my opinion, probably not worth much anyhow.

I agree with yam. In my Mini Mag it adds better lite to it. The drop in only was 4.95. Remember ... its good for a low power short distance lighting. My max working distance is about 5-6 feet.

They're like 50cents an LED at most and there's no circuitry inside. If you wanna build one, you probably can if you can find a way to turn if off
If I need LOOONG runtime, outcomes a UK 4AA eLED

Sure you can (the button is very tiny) and you get a nice stobe effect as you hammer away (well on a person anyways)

I've had the unit without the tail cap for a couple of nights now. I bought mine at the Walmart for 4.99, and I love it. I use it at night when I take my dog for the last walk of the day before I hit the sack. We go in the woods by my house and the LED conversion gives a good wash of blueish white light that lights up the trail very well.

It does not have the focus to the long range spot that the old minimag head did, so you can't send a 50 yard spotlight out there. But for what most small flashlights are used for it's just fine. And in a blackout it lights up a room in the house great. I have no problem sacraficing the long range spot for long battery life in real world situations.

And you get to keep the minimag "built like a tank" construction. The good thing about the unit without the tail cap is that the light still can be used as a striking weapon.

Worth every penny!

In that case, fine by me. :)

Damn the Walmarts here, 2 of the local stores do not carry the Nite Ize kits. Either I wait for it or just grab the Opalec Newbeam... :(
