New Model Fixed Blade - Umkhombe

I started beating on mine today:

I have to say after a few hours of work it's still a real pleasure to use. The handles can be a little rough but I was wearing gloves so it really locked into the hand.

Thanks Brian T, I was just about to get the camera and snap some pics. Yours pretty much sum it up. I have a Nyala and now the Umkhombe, but did not even notice the handles had 3m tape. Never had a need to tinker and take the scales off I guess....lol. As stated, the handles are somewhat sharp, but with gloves or some simple deburing to soften them, they would be perfect.

I got mine directly from CRK, thats the only place they are available in the US as they are the German Distributer Exclusive. Thanks to CRK for making it happen for the USA folks.

Can anyone explain the value of the harpoon point? I see it showing up on a lot of higher end knives these days. I see where it could add strength to the tip. And alter the balance point moving it a bit further forward.

Or is it just a styling exsecise the knife industry is going through.

I believe it's design, might be good as a little alternative harder use "edge"
otherwise maybe for a little more aggressive design?

If this knife were offered in the USA, even if as a variant, it would be a hit.

I have used the back side of the tip extensively to scrape things during fire prep. I use it for scraping up some light tinder and it works GREAT for throwing sparks with my firesteel.

I called CRK yesterday and Alicia told me this knife was discontinued and not available from them. Does anyone know if there is another way to obtain a new one? I am in the US.

Is that right? Wow!

Thanks for the update.

This knife looks awesome. Damn shame that it's been discontinued.

Looks like a "Nyala Large," which would be really awesome. All I need is the same variety of Nyala scales as there is for Sebenza inlays, and I'll be set for life.
