It's not a lot of info but here's what I can tell you. Around the first of April, Great Eastern will be shipping the first of the new #48 Dog Leg Trapper's. Here are the spec's:

3.875" OAL Closed
Muskrat Style Clip Blade
Long Slim Spey Blade
The Tidioute's will have smooth bolsters and end caps. The first Tidioute's will be available in an Acrylic, Jigged Bone, Bocote and a 2nd Cut Jigged Stag. The Northfield's will follow with plain end caps, lined bolsters and no doubt, Burnt Stag."

Very cool to see a new GEC with a different body than the cigar body they have. Can't wait to see pics...

This sounds like a must have.

One thing about the GEC's that has been missing is a knife with a slimmer profile.

Their offering thus far have been a little on the fat, stubby side.

Except, of course, for that skinny whittler and toothpick.

I too am anxious for a picture.

Awesome. GECS are too fat for me, and this sounds like it will be awesome. Hopefully they stay true to the design and its a nice profile overall.

Really? Even the ones that are only 3 inches long?

Ah, you're right - I forgot about the Barlows. Those I don't like just 'cause. Too stubby, I guess.

I have nothing against GEC and I really hope they're doing well as a company. It's just that they've yet to release anything that really caught my eye.

That is great news. I can't wait to see pics of it. I hope it is a slimmer type knife, because "most" of GEC's offerings, while excellent, are a little on the large & heavy side for my tastes. Of course, the Barlow's size is fine, but I agree that if it was a little bigger, it'd be excellent (That & their small blade spring a little lighter in the tension area).

So, I take it this is on a different frame/size configuration? I'm curious, though, why is it thought to be on the slimmer side? GEC's smaller Trapper is 3.75", but it's stout & heavy.

Try a toothpick. Not my favorite design, but in a GEC they are quite nice.

It sounds interesting, but at near 4" it can't be deemed small.

I'd like them to produce a Jack about the size of a Queen Cutlery Dog-Leg or a CASE Small Texas with different blade arrangements, Clip and Sheepfoot for starters. Or their version of a Norfolk would be worthwhile too.

I love my GEC's, but I have always thought it would be nice if they would produce a trimmer, sleeker pattern.

You might like the EZ open models I have 2, and they're neat little knives.

I really like my GEC toothpicks. They are a nice medium size and feel very good in your hand.

I got an Executive Melon Whittler last week, and it is truly an impressive piece. The large wharnclifffe blade has to fit exactly between the two small blades and it looks amazingly hard to make. It has 3 tapered springs and fancy bolsters, too.

I actually like the larger offerings from GEC. They fit my hands, my chores, and my pockets. If I wanted small slippies, I'd look elsewhere--Case makes plenty of them.

That being said, I'm eager for pix of this new model.

Well it looks like GEC has finally made some of the anticipated #48 Doglegs.
I like it!
I can't wait to see some in bone and stag, and minus the guitar shield.
