Prototype "Springer Mountain"

Working into a more Camp Knife profile, I set out to create a very useful chopping profile knife that would be light enough to prove suitable for longer camping / hiking trips. I chose a much thinner stock than you would normally see on a blade of this length in order to keep the overall weight of the finished knife down. Also, for the prototype I chose to use a re-curve profile which can add to chopping ability and is again a slight weight saver. (The final blade model will be available with or with out re-curve)

The point of balance for this knife is directly under the "F" of the blade's Logo.

I have plans to do some more design with the tip profile and come up with a few more options. This first model has a rather pronounce belly to it which helps to keep the weight forward aiding in chopping ability.

Steel: 1095
Thickness: Distal Tapered 3/16 In
Blade: 6 In
O/A: 10 1/4 In
Grind: Flat
Finish: High Polished
Handle: Flamed Maple
Sheath: Leather

looks like a nice pattern, very nice blade.

that hook at the rear of the handle looks like it could be a bit out-of-the-way, like it might not be in a good spot to work well...but only holding it could really tell me.

anyways, looks like a nice knife, and based on your reputation i'm sure it works well.

Looks good. Compact but still looks like it could do some chopping, I like the weight forward design. very cool.

That is one beeeuuutifull knife.
Is the next one in the series bigger or smaller?
When you make one without the recurve, it would be cool to see side-by-side pictures.

I always do testing, LOTS of testing.

this particular one is the third that I made.

the first one was ABUSED then broken in several spots to check grain structure (btw 1095 can flex a LOT and just laugh at me :thumbup:)

the second one was given a rough polish, handled and taken out to my wood pile for a couple hours to abuse yet again, it stays in my shop as a benchmark.

this third one got a full polish and sent out to a lucky new owner who I'm sure will be happy to indulge all of our picture requests :)

How about for the Bushcraft Knife, BUSH Mountain?:jerkit::D:thumbup:

Maybe funnier on another forum where they appreciate that kind of thing.

Really, what a great looking kitchen/chopping knife.
