Good Afternoon,
This one started out as the XL version of my Mako model. I have been updating my older designs with all the things I have learned the last few years.
Here are the changes to this model.
1. The handle shape has been changed for better retention on the back and everything is nicely beveled so there are no hot spots on the guard or rear curve. I wear an XL glove and there is still 1/2" of room left. If your hand is considerably larger than that I can always add some space in there on a custom build. I think this will work well for most people though.
2. I pushed the top of the plunge line towards the tip. This allowed me to stretch out the top of the handle material without changing the cutting edge length. The benefit is if you put your thumb along the spine it is still sitting on the handle material making it much more comfortable for extended use. I thought about putting some jimping up there that extended past the handle a bit but it felt unnecessary and I didn't want to change the look of the spine with the file work. That's always an option though.
3. The spine has a continual arc from the tip to the end of the handle. The original had this as well but I increased it. This puts the tip directly in line with the center of the hand.
4. I removed the clip and fuller. This is part cosmetic and part functional. This one balances right at the guard and weighs 11.7 ounces. This is 0.5 ounces heavier than a kbar for the same blade length but this one is 0.250" stock where a kbar is 0.165" stock. The fuller and clip can still be an option.
I think I am going to stick with the shark theme on this model and was leaning towards calling it the Megalodon but I have an idea for a variation with a 12" blade so I might go with Great White. Let me know what you guys think or any suggestions you might have.
This the first time I tried out painting a sheath. The paint is reasonably durable and has been sealed with resolene and a coat of renaissance wax. It is not going to come off easily just carrying it around but with hard use I am sure it will wear. Everything is fully carved and stamped so the decoration will remain even if the paint wears. I tested this out while I was figuring out the paint by sanding with 1500 grit. It looked pretty cool kind of like a battleworn ceracoat finish.
Price $575 , shipping is included to continental United States via USPS. Preferred payment is via paypal.
