I'm really disappointed to have missed this. I think that these should be a 1 piece maximum order because vultures just buy them and resell them once they are sold out. It's like scalping tickets; nobody but the greedy $@&$ wins. Massive frowns.
I'll let everyone know how the polishing turns out.
My S90V knives shine like liquid mercury. I see no reason to believe this one be be any less beautiful!![]()
I'm sorry that you missed out. You get a thread from Kristi announcing the release two weeks before release and in those two weeks there are multiple threads from multiple separate forums from excited members talking about it. On release day, the popular Mules like the S110v, K390, and M4 are available for up to six hours after it comes out at 10am mountain time, most other releases last for weeks up to months. In this case, after the Spydero site said sold out... For several days after after that, people were able to call in SFO and either order or got placed on a waiting list and were able to get one or two AND in fact several days later, they reopened the website and was instock again for a few hours on that Saturday.
I wanted TWO... Just because you missed out doesn't mean you can assume that everyone who likes MULES AND S110V vultures, flippers or whatever. Sure there are those who simply want to get one or two to make a few bucks but like them, if you really wanted it, there was plenty of opportunity to get it. It's not a perfect system but believe me, if the limit was one, the flippers will easily find a way to get around that.
While I haven't taken out the micrometer yet, the S110v seems much thinner behind the edge than all of my other mules. Both of mine are very sharp with almost a "zero" edge with a tiny tiny bevel. No complaints as I am gonna take them down to 15 degrees on the wicked edge.
Hi Ben,
We normally use 30 degree total or 15 DPS. New maker for Mule Team wasn't aware of our tight requirement. Sorry. Future Mule Team pieces will use 15 DPS.

On Spyderco's own forum someone posted this:
I measured the width behind the edge at 0.020" on my MT17 and 0.010" on my MT18.
That was after sharpening both mules to 15 dps, but I can't speak for how anybody else's were ground. I happened to have both mules and a micrometer at hand when the question came up. Your experience may vary.Seems that the MT18 should be thinner behind the edge if it's sharpened at a wider angle (unless someone really hogged in to the blade). Sharpening to a narrower angle would take the edge up to a thicker part of the blade - if all else is equal.

The new maker has to be Queen Cutlery, they are the only ones that sharpen at 50 degrees.![]()
I have no experience with the EdgePro but I had to work pretty hard on my Wicked Edge to get my MT17 to 15° per side. Happy with what I got but had to work at it some. Started with 100 grit diamonds and worked up to fine ceramic. No big deal. 10 min on my EdgePro and it will be there. After all, Mule buyers are steel junkies. And sharpening junkies...
As Ben said, no complaints. If there was ever a community who should understand these issues, it should be the Mule folks.
I picked up one of the latest mules as well that I intend to do the handle on. May I ask where you got the thin micarta liner material? I'd like to try that as well.I plan on keeping both of mine and making custom scales and sheaths for them. Maybe one will end up as a Christmas/BDay gift sometime this year.
I mentioned in another thread that my first set of S110v scales will be in Hawaiian Silky Oak with a 1/16" brown linen Micarta liner. The wood came from Mark at Burl Source - good looking stuff. I'm about halfway finished now and will post results when I get them finished up. I'm trying to take some photos for a WIP thread. We'll see how that goes...
The second set I'm still debating about. I've got some interesting timber squirreled back and will take a look to see what strikes my fancy. I might go for a laminated approach or possibly use multiple woods/spacers similar to a stick-tang block handle.
My youngest son is setting up to do the sheaths - not sure what he's got up his sleeve for this project. I'm sure he'll surprise me!
