Just got one today, thanks to Syderco Factory Outlet and US Postal Service!

I am going to add leather handle to is same as I did for CPM M4 Mule:

Stay tuned...

Thanks, Vassili.

very interested to hear your testing comparison of the S90V to the M4 version!

Finally I found some time to make handle for new Mule. I cut out two pieces of thick leather and glue them to tang.

This is how it looks after epoxy harden

Then I cut out final handle with knife and sand edges with Dremel:

This all take about hour.

Then another hour to paint the handle and polish it with carnauba pipe polish:

Kind of Tiger pattern easy to put.

So in two hours knife is ready. Actually in one hour it is ready, I paint it just for fun.

Thanks, Vassili.

well, you're not likely to lose sight of that one unless you drop it while scuba-diving over a coral reef, that's for sure! I'll bet those leather handles are comfy too.

Freaked out! :D

Those handles make a nice change from the usual, especially the striped version.
Reminds me of a snake I don't want to meet.

Leather handles are very light and thermo-comfortable. I really like them and this ia why I did same again. Also it is easy to paint - I use COPIC markers instead of special leather dye. Special leather dye fade pretty quick, while COPIC markers seems to hold colors way better, actually I do not notice any problems for more then a year and half.

Carnauba pipe polish - some italian polish for pipes I found in local Tobacco shop. Best polish for everything - wood, leather...

Thanks, Vassili.

I found that doing small project it is much easy to locate tool if it has bright highly visible color. So it is just a matter of comfort for use (and fun).

Thanks, Vassili.

I just sharpened it - as usual, Spyderco edges ideal and do not need too much effort to resharpen. However this is high carbid content abrasive steel and I was very surprised when it just start whittling hair right when I first try. I was impressed. May be they found right way to HT it?

Of course with only Microtech Socom and Military being made so far industry does not have enough experience. May be now optimal CPM S90V HT for knives has been found?

...I am wondering if they try to make CPM S110 Mule? Kershaw did it first and disappear... Really like to see more of that Niobium steel, may be Sal will consider it for Mule run?

Thanks, Vassili.

Hi Vassili,

Nice job.

We ordered 110V and S30VN some time ago. First Crucible said we could do a Mule run with it, then they later called and said it wsn't ready. At this time I don't know the status.

Wow! This is cool, we may hope sooner or later we will have Mule with CPM 110V and CPM S30VN.

What is CPM S30VN? Is it N - nitrogen or Nb - Niobium?

Thanks, Vassili.

Niobium.

They're also thinking of calling it CPM-S35V.

What would be the advantage of S35V over S30V?

IIRC, Phil Wilson stated the whole heat of S110V was gone. No idea if they will do another heat.

Never heard of CPM S30VN/CPM S35V.

As usual Sal's a step ahead of us. :) Joe

I am wondering if they try to add Lantan o Cerium. It works very well to increase property of iron cast (high-test iron cast), may be such modifiers will benefit Crucible high Carbon steels? They start using Nb and Co why not to try Ce.

Thanks, Vassili.

Mastiff, I don't know that the first heat on CPM S110V is all gone. there may be enough for a Mule run. That would be a question to ask Crucible. I do know that is in short supply and is very expensive. I was able to get some and have done some initial heat treating work up. I got hardness in the same range as CPM 10V. So far looks very good. It would be an excellent candidate for a Mule... Phil
