Uncle!!!!Steel is not just iron + carbon, it is iron + carbon up to a certain concentration. Wrought iron, steel, maraging, cast iron, they can all be iron with a certain amount of carbon. Anyone who is a fan of H-1, INFI, etc should not be quibbling about ceramics present in their blades.
I agree, new processes have altered where the boundaries lie, but not all 'steel' is steel.
I can go back and read through my Heat Treater's Guide, Atlas of Isothermal Transformation & Cooling Transformation Diagrams, Tool Steel Simplified, Metallurgy of Steel for Bladesmith's & Others who Heat Treat & Forge Steel, Functions of the Alloying Elements in Steel, Metallurgy of Iron & Steel, Physical Metallurgy of Steel, or some of the pdfs I have on my computer if wikipedia is insufficient.
