New Mystery Knife

[TX Traditional]

This just popped up on the auction site “Buy It Now” and dirt cheap so I did just that. It doesn’t have a tube.
Can anyone tell me about it? The tang stamp says Tidioute Cutlery over Made in USA but it has no model # on the other side. I’m assuming the covers are bone.
I will sit back and await the onslaught of knowledge from the porch.

It looks like one of the 2017 66 stockmans with the smaller blades and second spring removed. It also looks like someone ground down the handles to make them more slim, which is why the jigging seems shallow.

It is pretty interesting. I think it will make a good EDC if they didn’t destroy it in the modification.

It looks as though they knew what they were doing. The pins and bolsters looked as good as any. I was actually looking for single blade versions, thinking it looked stock.

All of the above is true. There is no official GEC release with that material and configuration. There is no number tang stamp because it would normally be on one of the other two blades.
In my opinion, that is a very nice mod though It looks like someone did a good job and I'm sure they sanded it down to give it a more pocket-worn look. The whole thing looks very vintage I dig it.

I just bought it but I’ll let you know when it comes in. The main blade on my current 66 has a nice snap. I hope they were able to maintain it.

Some of the 66 from that run had really weak pull on the secondary blades. I can see how someone would not be so scared to modify one of those knives.

I only had one like that, and it was sold after I'd had enough. It didn't improve. The rest have been a tad light but have adequate snap.

All the above is correct. I saw that knife listed by the original owner a few months back. Said it was a #66 turned into a single blade. The second owner didn't keep it very long.

Exactly. Looks like it's holding up fine and the mod looks well done. I'm sure it'll be a fun knife, I almost bought it the first time around.

This is such an interesting hobby. Pimp my new knife to make it look vintage. Make me a new knife that looks vintage. Get me a vintage knife and keep it vintage.
