New neighbor's Knife?

Well, it looks like it has held up over the years, so that has to say something about it’s durability. Cost and quality doesn’t always go hand in hand, but it appears to have served someone well.

Friend of mine had one. I told her I wouldn't trust it as far as I could throw it.

She says "Well I'll just keep it around here and use if for stupid stuff then..."

Shortly thereafter, she tried to hack a chunk off a brick of cheese and snapped it in two at the tang.

So really, that knife can't even cut the cheese.

This is true, but in the case with these they are known to not be good at all.
I have no clue why they even still make them today, but they do and a few years ago there was " The Rocky mountain knife " which even used a shot for shot remake of one of the original 1980's commercials.

Btw I looked a bit closer at mine and its actually made in Taiwan like the knife in question and not JAPAN as I thought.

Most likely.
yes. I agree. But somehow these cheap knifes are collectable with usually men 50-65. so for fun i am restoring some and making a great quality leather sheath for knife. i’d like to get a quality vintage survival knife. the only one I hear aboyt is Buckmaster 184. Very expensive. Any suggestion for knife a mere mortal can buy?

I told my neighbor about this forum after he came over for the first time……..I told the guy that it most likely is a POS and he didn't believe me.

😆 this has all the makings of a long, prosperous and damn funny relationship.

First time I met the guy, so I insulted his blade. HAHAHHAA

They usually had a ball compass on the pommel end and a hollow tube handle, but not always. They usually came in black with an extremely thin floppy sheath with stone pocket, or a camo'd handle and sheath. That bottle top opener was a distinct feature. They were pretty much as you say "POS" level
I had exactly one of those, as you are describing it. Still have the crappy stone from the sheath somewhere.
Truly not worth the $$. Handle broke long time ago, in my trunk, hit by some of my heavy tools. The whole thing went to the trash.
