New Norax Belts

i have been getting the norax from tru-grit here in california (909) 923-4116 not sure about the differnt shaped grains peter is talking about. but i prefer these over the 3m trizac.

These belts are fantastic! The backing is much thicker than Trizacts, so there is almost no seam bump on small wheels. Very smooth, and they really move steel.

The grain structure on these I have is in diagonal lines. Is that what you have Rhino?

Where'd you get 'em, Jerry?

This is worse than a TV fishing show. Somebody gets a new lure and then everybody has one!:D

I sent Jerry the U264 line. The U464 series is also supposed to be good for hard to grind metals like titanium. Both series feature the diagonal pattern that they call "tri-helical".

I think I paid $4.75 ea. To tell the truth, getting them was more important than the price. These belts are vital to my working with S30V.

Peter, will buying from that supplier benefit your cousin?

Can someone tell me what kind of Norzacs to get for a 1800 belt speed flat grind on L-6 and 1095 type steels. Simple carbon steels is what I work in. True grit right? Should I use the diagonal pattern as I see they have 3 different patterns? Has anyone done an estimate on how many knives they can do start to finish with one set of grits in these Norzacs? I am a beginning hobbiest knifemnaker so I do not make my living with it but am pretty much out of my Industrial abrasives supply and get sick of eating up belts so fast. I just sold my last knife I posted on here for $150 so I may just finally break down and buy some decent belts. I want to be able to get several knives from one set. That would be nice. Does True grit have the best deal on these puppies or are there other suppliers? Cory

I have no idea what to tell you Cory. It's all new to me too. I would say maybe you ought to get some decent ceramic belts or just good old aluminum oxide in coarse grits, say 36 or 50, then get some good finishing belts like these Noraxes or Trizacs in 220 and higher grits....

Jerry, that name was sent to me by my cousin in response to my desperate email asking for a supplier. He just said that they were someone who he was aware that carries the Norax line. That's all he said so I have no idea if he benefits in any way. He's just an engineer there so he doesn't get involved in the sales end at all.

After doing a little research about a month ago, I like the prices that Tru-grit and Pop's has to offer for quality (3M, Norton, Klingspor) belts.
