New Northridge Tool Grinder is Here! (Pics added)

I wish Northridge the best. From what I can see, it's a fine piece of equipment. However, as previous posters have noted, their web presence is limited--or at least it was when I was shopping some months back. I wrote them an e-mail asking about available accessories, prices, etc. I didn't get a response, which shook my confidence--so I went with a KMG. If I'm ever in the market for a new grinder, I'll certainly give Northridge another look.

I just ordered my new Northridge. George now has 10" wheels available. I'll post an update when it arrives.

Sorry for the picture size, people keep talking about the gas shocks for belt tension being a problem, we have never had one fail yet, and that's with a couple hundred in use some by full time knife makers.
Because there was so much concern about them we made a ratcheting belt tensioner, the arms are 1018 the ratchet wheel and pawl are d50 it has mechanical advantage from the fulcrum point, so much so we put a stop on it, all the steel parts are black nitrided so you get corrosion resistance and they are 68-70c .008 deep, we machined pockets for the stainless spring and pins so everything is covered to keep it clean, it bolts on with the same mounting holes as the gas shock so it totally modular.

We do finally have our 10" contact wheels done, 6061 hubs oversized bearings 1/2 bore, spacer between bearings, 70 durometer peroxide cured rubber faces blasted chemlock primer and adhesive applied before molding, vulcanized at temperature with 500 ton molding press, then we grind the faces to make them truly concentric.

Matthewhoffman Sorry i didn't return your email sometimes my inbox gets so flooded i get things mixed up, i am the only one replying to questions, best way for contact is a phone call.

Thank you George

I called and have spoke with George 3 or 4 times. Been a pleasure to do business with. I love my grinder, really interested in that top platen you just posted. Haven't had any problems with the piston, it works great.

Northridge is a great company with a great grinder, I just got mine a few weeks ago and it's amazing. I have a video with it's first run on another post. When I was comparing prices, for just the grinder with variable speed motor, Northridge is one of the cheapest and very high quality. If you're really wanting to save money, they were talking about making a $350ish model that doesn't come with a motor but dies have all the wheels and whatnot. But if you can do it, get the $1,800 model. It's very worth it and you can always buy more accessories to it later like the 90 degree tilt bracket

Starts out at $899 but quickly goes up to within $500-$600 of a TW90. I still think I'd prefer the steel pivot/hinge over aluminum. That's just me though.

Jay

I have owned a TW-90. By far the best grinder I have ever owned. My only complaint is the platen. It can not pivot like the Northridge, KMG, OR Wilmont. That was a big issue for me.

I'm glad so many people are curious about Northridge grinders. They're a great company with very nice grinders and I haven't heard of anything but great reviews on their products. I love my Northridge grinder.

As soon as I get my shop set up I'll post pics of my grinder as well, and maybe eventually more videos

Our tipping stand does not pivot on aluminum, it has pressed in steel backed bronze Teflon bushings, it has stainless steel pivot pins, it also has steel backed Teflon bronze crush washers front and back so no aluminum is rubbing, the locking handle and locking receiver are cnc machined for a perfect fit black nitrided 70c .008 deep corrosion resistant, and stainless spring and pins are are located inside we pocket everything out and its covered so no grinding grit gets in.
Just an explanation of our pivot hinge.

Thank you George

By once, cry once! Even if you have to save an extra month or so. You will be glad you did.

Have to add to this. Spoke to George the other day on the phone. Hilarious take no bs attitude but truly cares about making the best product out there. When he spins a wheel from other companies and it's 12 thousandths out of round, he made sure his were 1 thousandth out of round or less. That's quality and I will happily give him more of my money.

He's also listening to customers with the various add one. Also play with a northridge and looknitnover. Not a single shortcut like some grinder manufacturers who live off their reputation from 5-10 years ago but their QC has gone down hill.

Hi All,

Sorry to drag up an old thread, firstly thanks for providing the info for the northridgetool grinder ; I stumbled across this thread when looking for 2x72" grinders, and has helped me make up my mind. As have been wanting to try my hand at knife making for a while since finding some sambar antlers, and thought they would make great handles (hopefully?). I do a little bit of machining and was doing some research into heat treating and now I have some time in my hands, this has peaked my interest back up into shaping some blades.

Anyhow contacted George and looking at 8+ week for the grinder + I live in Australia so it will be quite the wait which is fine. But forgot to ask, the dimension from the back of the motor to the front of the stand (pro pack). Just wondering if anyone could measure it for me please? Also any one running the 10" wheel as this will be useful for some other projects and just wondering how it is performing?

Look forward to the grinder, not sure if it will be the first one on Oz! Hopefully.

Thanks in advance,

Adrian

I bought the bare bones model a week after blade show and it only took a couple days to ship. Must be getting busy. I upgraded to the ratcheting tension arm. Very nice. I run 8/10" wheels with no problems. I'll measure that for you if still needed, later on today.
19" front to back, approx. If you are asking about the tilt stand, I can't help you. Rich

Thanks if you could it would be greatly appreciated as making a new bench and want to ensure that I make it wide enough. have dropped George a few emails and haven't got a response yet. Unfortunately because I am in Australia the time zone is killer trying to ring OH.

P.s thanks for the photos.

Thanks in Advance,

Thanks Rich,

19" is a good starting point, was after the tilting stand but now I have a basic idea of scale I will be able to make an educated guess from photos.

Cheers,
