New Ohta Wharncliffe slipjoint

My lonesome OHTA, sharp and beautiful. I love the proportions of this knife.
And, I like the way he sticks to the old Sheffield standards of fitting stag! He has a nice touch, and flawless workmanship.
I say, get one before the prices go too high. These knives will stand the test of time!!

I always enjoy your informative posts Waynorth. I'm curious what are the old Sheffield standards of fitting stag? Thanks in advance for your response!

By the way that Ohta of yours is a beauty!

I have always liked his knives, but that one looks extra special.:thumbup:

The slimline looks good to me too. ;)

Gary, the great old Sheffield knives have "Full Gnarl" (my term), and the stag is thinned as much as you dare and still retain stability.
The "Fat Stag" school of stag handles, with bald ends seems to have evolved much later, and is likely the result of rising prices of good stag. if you only use the straighter cuts necessary, more gets tossed.
These knives have "Full Gnarl" ;

And these have the more modern curved or arched "fat pieces" tapered off to the bolsters.

Great Eastern is making an effort to revive that good old fitting. Not half bad, but costs a premium!

I guess I'm getting off track here; sorry guys. Delete if necessary!!

No, but I sure like it. Just too broke to pay attention right now. :D.

I had actually talked with Dan about that one and gave it a good deal of thought but decided to let it drop off the radar screen for one reason or another.

Sure Charlie,

Do you think we are going to delete one of your informative posts. (not going to happen :))
Have always wondered and thanks to you I know for sure. ;)
