It's a blacksmithing Anvil!:D:foot: I have one similar in size, and I believe yours is closer to 250 pounds. a 400 pounder is about 3 feet long. and 3-4 inches taller. but anyway GREAT FIND!

VERY nice chunk of anvil there. A perfect example of a London pattern. Only:eek:those Canadian winters will cause the steel face to fly off with a crack and injure the cat. 'Best ship it to sunny kaintuck for safekeeping! (You can visit anytime) :D:D:D:
No, really, I kid. Did you get a good deal? I assume you purchased this jewel. NOW DON'T COME BACK AND SAY YOUR MAIDEN AUNT GAVE IT TO YOU! or I will have to go away for a way for a while where it is quiet and we have fruit cup.

According to my book "Anvils in America" by Richard A. Postman, your anvil was made in the early 19th century. Later anvils had feet that were flat on top where yours have a sharp edge on top. Also, the waist on yours is thicker, typical of earlier anvils. Faces on early anvils were also wider. 5.75" wide is REALLY wide. For it's age, it's in great condition. IMO, you have an exceptional find.

thanks guys
i think i got a good deal payed 600  i think it is more than 250 because i had a hard time moving it with a friend and we had no problem moving my 300 lbs wood stove.

fox don't worry about the winter it will be nice and warm it the shop;)

I just picked up this anvil made by the "Trenton" company a week or so ago. I got it for $50. Someone had responded to a wanted ad I put up on craigslist. I'm not sure how heavy it is yet as I don't have anything to weigh it on. It has a "95" printed near the base, but I THINK it is heavier then 95 lbs.

It has a nice flat face. The edges are in fairly good condition. It passes the ring and bounce test very nicely. I believe the material is solid wrought iron as I think I can just barely make out the words "Solid Wrought" below the Trenton logo.

I think this will do nicely for some blade smithing.
