Lots of info and questions are going to start flying around about the "new" old blades, BK1 Brute, and BK6 Patrol Machete. Here's a good place to get the convo started right, instead of scattering them around other threads. So, here's what I know.....

Yes, they are coming back.
Yes, they will be BKT's BK1 and BK6
Yes, they will be made overseas.
Yes, they will be made of 1085.
Yes, they will have the BKT/Kabar logo.
Yes, Ethan does want you all to buy at least 2 of each.
Yes, they will be well made, with good heat treat, and grinds.
Yes, there will be some slight modifications, but nothing major, or really even noticable.
No, this is not a joke.
No, we don't know when they will be here.
Yes, everyone said they will not be made again.

Here's why they are coming back.

Ya'll wanted them. Back by popular demand.

Here's why they will be made overseas.

Ya'll wanted them. Back by popular demand.

From talking with Ethan a couple of months ago, he really wanted to bring ya'll some the knives you have been asking about, but with new designs, new projects, Kabars eye on the horizon, and the sheer task of bringing these "new" old blades back, overseas was the only way they would be made is if they were imported. To quote E, "I was told that 'Sure Kabar could make them, but you won't live long enough to see them'". Not that Kabar was threatening E's life, but simply it would be a long time before they came to be real. So, Ethan and Kabar, made some decisions, and now, the BK1 Brute and BK6 Patrol Machete will be coming back.

Yes, I did start the Machete Passaround thread, when I found out they were coming back.

So, 1085, made overseas, minor design tweaks, and a delivery date of less than a year.

Anyone not happy?

Sounds good boss. Looking forward to them.

Im very happy to hear they are coming back! I do wish they were made in the US though, I would willfully pay more to see that "made in the US" sticker on the box. That being said, you can still mark me down for two patrol machetes :D

Any chance if they become popular and sell good they will manufacture them stateside like they did with the remora?

Don't mean to sound ungrateful, just curious..... Can't wait to see some pics!!!!

I'll take 2 patrol machetes. :-)

I beat the crap out of my BK6 and all it says is, "more please." But another set would do nicely in my truck and next to my nightstand.

I very seriously doubt it. You gotta realize just what Kabar's next 5 yrs is gonna be like, and think, why waste grind time on old designs, when there is so much new and exciting stuff around the bend. Ethan's creativity gears have been kicking into overdrive. Ta hell with the gas mileage.

I'm happy, But not as happy as i'll be when I get a patrol machete in my hand.
Anyone care to speculate on the price?(I know it's a longshot)

the BK1 the BK1 the BK1.

Shit yeah brother thats the blade I want.

I'm sure I will end up buying all that come out but that will be the first one.......thanks moose for providing me with a boner

Priced to be market competitive, I assure you. But, you gotta look at the prices of what these were going for when they were new, 10yrs ago. Don't expect them to be dirt cheap, but I would imagine you'll get your money's worth. BKT's are always going to be the best value for the buck in the knife world, always have been, always will be.

Its High School all over again. Damn.

Will these blades have the same excellent warranty?

If it says BKT/Kabar on the box, and blade, Ethan and Kabar will stand behind it, I'm sure of that. Its not like they are going to be importing bunk ass knives and shilling them out, this has been a much lamented decision, or at least I know E was on the fence about it for a while. He wouldn't agree to it, if the quality was less than great. Look at some of the other makers out there, making some great blades, good prices, and are importing.

That said, I still stand behind my American made, American money standard. I know they will be great blades.

Thanks Moose, Just wanted to make sure.

I don't care were they are made as long as there tuff.....

Are we talking imported taiwan or china, Brazil (love their wimenz), or india. country of origin?

Taiwan or China, one of those. I'm not sure which, and I don't remember if it was said. No Brazil and India. Kabar already has established makers in Taiwan, so, I'm thinking that was the one. I'm not sure. Just not Oleans, New York, I know that for certain.

I'll tell ya what, without getting into the politics of the decision, Taiwan is putting out some excellent products and values these days. Both Spyderco and Kershaw have Taiwanese offerings that not only sell very well, but are considered by many users to be among their favorite acquisitions. I've paid enough attention to inside-industry sources to not be nervous in a knee-jerk kind of way to the thought of buying Taiwanese knives at this point. I'd *prefer* that circumstances in the steel market and just the political and economical environment made it more conducive to American production, but hey, importing something that there's a decent demand for still puts people in America to work selling it, servicing it and marketing it.

In short, I'm fine with anything that passes Ethan's standards, no matter where it comes from, and I can't wait to get me at least one each of these two "new" old models!

I can agree with ya on that, Blues. I've never really called into question the quality, you gotta think, how many blades is Taiwan producing a year? For how many companies? For how many DECADES?

I've always been told, you get what you want, for what you want. If you set quality standards high, they meet them. You set the price to turn out a good product for your customer, they do it.

I have my preferences, but that has nothing to do with this thread or this topic really, so, I'm trying to leave it out. I think that everyone will be pleased with the new BK1 and BK6, and like you said, if Ethan backs it, its gonna be good.

Wear will the MACHAX be made?
Will it be 1095 or 1085?

trying to cover it all.....
