New Old Blades

a number of KaBars knives are made in taiwan just rock like all get out (cutlass machete and the khukri, and others); the fit and finish is superb, and you know darn well KaBar is watching them like a hawk watches a chicken dinner. one wrong move and pffft :>

KaBar USA just has physical limits on production... there probably isn't any place in the USA with the capacity or the cost effectiveness for the overflow. so what are you going to do?

i would imagine that IF a model proves REALLY popular, it might be brought back home, but we are talking about two models that historically never sold as well as the others, or so Camillus claimed. we'll see, eh? guess that leave it to YOU guys to buy buy buy buy and buy.

oh, and of course, it'll be amusing to see how the rest of this plays out :)

Wear will the MACHAX be made?
Will it be 1095 or 1085?
trying to cover it all.....

USA baby. probably 1095 but who knows, they might get crazy ;) no. okay, they won't. 1095. KaBar heat treat. new refinements. updated everything. as stated elsewhere, probably officially introduced SHOT 2012, but i'd IMAGINE a few lucky people (me me me) will get to see some prototypes at Blade... which is REALLY SOON... OH YEAH. given that SHOT 2012 is well, like 6+ months nothing is nailed in stone either. things may change, get refined, modded, added, subtracted. so there.

very cool

thank you for the updates Moose

so, are the BK1 and 6 the only reproduction knives Becker/Kabar will be making?

As far as I know, yes. Not too many that aren't being produced when these come out. BKT and Kabar have new stuff a comin', so, expect the BKT line to grow.

1085 with a good heat treat is excellent steel. Easier to get good consistancy too. Looking forward to them.

Yeah, the 1085 doesn't make me nervous at all. Heat treat is the key, and Ka-Bar holds the keys to the Kingdom on that score. I predict these will be at least as popular as their USA-made ancestors.

If they have good results with these 2 & they sell good, is it a possability down the road to bring any others back in the same overseas way ???

Im very happy to hear they are coming back! I do wish they were made in the US though, I would willfully pay more to see that "made in the US" sticker on the box. That being said, you can still mark me down for two patrol machetes :D

Any chance if they become popular and sell good they will manufacture them stateside like they did with the remora?

Don't mean to sound ungrateful, just curious..... Can't wait to see some pics!!!!

I hope so.

Oops, checked the database...the bk8 is scary looking, and the bk12 is the ritter collab.

I like to see the Reinhart Kukri resurrected. It's great to hear that BK6 is making a come back, I like to get one and try it out here in the jungles of Borneo. Will BK6 come with Kydex sheath? :D We will see how it compares to the Iban's Duku Ilang (a traditional Iban Tribe 'parang').

Guess I will have to get a Brute, too. Well, at least I have something to look forward to now. :D
