The non blade forums supporter store I work at carries pocket knives and as I was helping a customer with another knife I found a serpentine problem Congress in a case box. I will post a pic if I can figure out how. My question is, did case make these? It looks a lot more like Schrade. I can't guess how this got there.

"serpentine problem Congress" ??? I think you're going to have to be more specific.

Haha! I'm also confused... maybe he meant "Primble" and autocorrect changed it to "problem".

Queen made knives for Bluegrass Cutlery that were branded Primble (also some branded Winchester and Robeson). Queen put the year on back of the main blade. I haven't seen any from Case. If it's older than the late 80s it could be something else. A photo would help A LOT. Posting a photo is really the only way to get a meaningful answer to an ID question.

Easiest way to post pics is to upload them to a picture hosting site.
Once uploaded, copy the web address of the pic.
Go to your post and click the picture tool. (Looks like a mountain scene. Is located next to the smiley icon.) When you get the popup, paste the web address of the pic into it and you should be good to go.

Sounds good. Schrade did make some knives branded Primble in the 1970s. I'm not sure if they made any later. If your store still had stock that old that would be something. That's why my first guess is Queen. But it will be easy to ID from the photos.

I looked into it a bit more now that I'm off work. I guess it's a 4 blade stock man, not a congress. the blade etch says its number 4216-s. the knife appears to be brand new condition, but there are issues. both scales cracked at center pin. one of the pen blades has a strange grinder mark on the spine. and weirdest of all, on non mark side there is an extra scale pin, tight up next to the "normal" one. this knife is odd. I'm having a ridiculous amount of trouble getting my pics to go, but I will keep trying for a bit.

That looks like a Schrade to me, which would align to what Jake said in post #6.

I wonder if that knife was loos in the cabinet for a couple decades till someone saw a it, and an empty case box, and stuck it in. I was not aware we ever carried primble. nobody at the store has ever heard of it, and I can't come up with a more likely scenario, other than it somehow getting shipped to us in a case box, but I can't imagine how that could have happened.

Ok, I'm using imgur, and copy and paste it into the landscape icon, but it's not working for me. Is there a compatibility issue with imgur? Is there a host that is easier to use?

Copy the BBCode and paste it into your reply. That works for me.

W.M.B.,
FWIW, I always use imgur, and I copy and paste photos into my posts exactly the same way (as Peregrin describes) as I did before the BF software upgrade.

Cool mystery knife you have on your hands!

The easy to use method I use is to take a pic with you phone, if >1meg resize it (several easy to use apps for that), log on to BF, start your reply, and use 'Upload a File'. It removes the image hosting site business if you don't need it for albums, sharing and the like.

How about tang stamps?

I think you're correct. A Schrade made Primble was just put in an empty box. It was not made by Case. Primble was a hardware store brand and several manufacturers made knives for that brand over many years... including Boker, Camillus, Utica, Schrade and Queen. That stockman is different than the congress patterns that I was thinking about. I don't know the date without digging but I think the 4 blade was from around late 80s or early 90s... that's just based on a graying hair's memory. My catalogs are for older knives. There are folks in the Schrade collector forum who will know the details. The center pin is a common spot for a crack. The extra pin is very odd. I've seen missing pins but not an extra.

How do I find this "upload a file? "

How do I find this "upload a file? "

It's at the bottom right corner of any thread page right next to "Post Reply". It's a blue box on my screen. You might have to have a paid membership to see it. I'm not sure.

You're not a paying member, right? If not that feature may not be available. But hey, at $10 per year for a basic member, you can't beat it. (That's giving up two lattes :D)
