New Opinel Lock Ring - Jury No Longer Out

I don’t know what made them change it, but there’s a limit now to how far you can turn the ring and it only turns one way now. I just bought a 7 with the new set up and it works fine. The jury is still out on whether it will reach the point where it gets too loose and has no more travel to correct it though.

Edited to add: others beat me to it.

From what I have read/seen, the change was actually for safety lol. Lots of people were removing the lock rings by applying brute force, especially in the closed position. Opinel referred to this as "forced ejection" of the ring, and they cited it as a reason for the change. I can understand some of the frustration of not being able to modify the ring as in the past, but for every skilled user who can modify the ring to be safer, I have a feeling there are 10 more less skilled users who will actually weaken the lock by removing it and tinkering with it. In any event, all of the Opinels I have handled with the new locks seem totally fine to me, right out of the box.
