New or old Mnandi?

I have seen the new version with the updated pivot and the new clip. Is it better than the old? I am planning to buy one and think it is easier to find nice ex of the old style. Which is to prefer?

The changes are so minute, I don't have a strong preference. I do like the older clip because it can be taken out while the new one requires an additional screw to do so, and there are some fine examples of older pivots that are tooled and anodized, but supposedly the new pivot is easier on the inlay.

I personally like the aesthetics of the old design better. I've been holding out trying to find a giraffe bone mnandi (old design of course) instead of purchasing a box elder or ivory.

I may complicate this by pointing out that I just received a brand new Mnandi box elder damascus that has the new pivot and clip with the old nail nick. Also, the clips, pivots and nail clip changes were all done at different times apparently so there are lots of hybrids.

Was the pivot a weak point on the old version? Cracks in the inlays? By the way – have the Mnandis still a pivot bushing, even now when the Sebenzas doesn´t?

Thanks!

I have never had an issue with the old pivot but do seem to recall at least one post from someone who did. I personally would not worry too much about this. If I recall correctly, CRK took care of this issue.
The Mnandis do indeed still have the pivot bushing.
On another note, some have mentioned issues opening one-handed with the new nail nick. I do not have any problems opening one-handed but do agree that is slightly more difficult doing so.

I like the new clip better, but personally like s30 better that s35. I am looking for an older version in blood wood!

I personally prefer the old model mnandi mostly because I like the shape of the nail nick which gives the blade a more aggressive profile when open. A very bird of prey look.

Being able to remove the clip is one major reason IMHO to prefer the older version.

It's not "better" just different, I personally prefer the old style clip and pivot but do own knives with the new pivot and old clip. I'm not a fan of the new clip set up and will avoid it at all costs. :p

I prefer the new clip and pivot. I think the new clip profile better conceals the knife in the pocket (in the sense that it looks more like a pen clip) and gives the knife a more flush look.

In the end, it all comes down to personal preference. There is no good or bad, just different.

Thank you for answers! I think I will go for the one with the nicest inlay.

That is certainly the best choice, though it is not your only one - at least with regards to the clip. I didn't have a preference for either the new or old pivot, but did prefer the old clip to the new one. So when my rosewood mnandi came with the new clip, I simply swapped it out with an old one and got the best of both worlds - desired inlay and preferred clip.

I have done the same. Though there is some conflicting information out there, it is wrong because the clips are completely interchangeable.

Can someone who has both old and new show a couple of pics to outline the differences in clip, nail nick, and pivot?

Awesome, thanks. I was never actually aware that they changed the nail nick. I used to think I preferred the new clip style, but I like being able to remove the clip, and the old clip screw reminds me of the screws on the regular sebenzas. I think I'm going to keep my eye out for an old style.
