New pack audition-Osprey Exos 46

Makes me a bit wary to pick up something from the Exos line unless this problem is addressed with the next revision.
Don't blame you. IMO, all of these packs will have the potential for the same problem because the frame can be flexed-and the frame holds that crosspiece in place. I don't think they're just going to fall apart, though. I already had almost 35 miles on the pack from two long dayhikes, on basically the same terrain with no problems. Probably jostled it around just right this time, running and skipping(there, I said it) downhill, and planting with the trekking poles.
I'm not sending this pack back. I like it too much, and it's unique in some respects. Would either end up with a replacement just like it, or a refund, buying the "next best thing".
Fixed it with a heavy duty zip tie that will take a lot more than this pack will ever put on it. Cinched it down to where I wanted it, and cut off the extra. It isn't noticeable, and should be permanent. I can live with that. Things aren't always perfect out of the box...

Yeah, I hear ya. After all, this pack was designed for the UL crowd... can't expect it to be bombproof. Especially with skippy skipperson bouncing down the trail with 28lbs in the pack :D

Anyway, you said it still carried comfortably even with the failure, and if you can jerry rig it for a permanent fix without loss of function: not ideal, but doable. I'm still going to try the pack on (34 version) when i shop for my next daypack

My zip-tie solution worked well, and I tested it out for a second time with a combination of rough downhill jaunts and a couple of 15 minute miles. Think I did about 14.5 miles total, no complaints.

Using a Platypus Hoser instead of the Camelbak opens up some room inside, and there's still room in the pocket for a .5L water bottle(actually fuel for alcohol stove in there) and some trash. On the other side, with a 1L Platypus bottle, there's room at the front for my bug spray so it's easy to get to without removing the pack. I'd hoped the cool weather would hold, but we hit mid-80s with ~50 for the low, so parts of the hike yesterday evening and this morning were still a sweatfest. Pack still felt great, and my back was no sweatier than the rest of me. Still lovin' it:thumbup:

Awesome, thanks for the update! Might be picking one up for christmas gift to myself, if the fit works.

Liking the options, too. Those big mesh pockets are handy. Here I've got a Camelbak in the hydration sleeve, with my bivy w/poles in the outside pocket, and a Platypus on the other side. There's enough room inside that I started using a larger stuff sack for my down bag(been using a more compact bag while it's still warm) so it isn't compressed as much.

Turned my overnighter into a fast-paced dayhike, today, but all my stuff for 4 days/3 nights is in there. It got bounced around some more, as I did a little jogging with it on, and everything stayed in place. I was curious if the waistbelt would loosen(and a little afraid it might break), but I didn't have to adjust it at all.
I AM thinking about taping a note on the lid to remind me to open the valve at the bottom of the Camelbak before loading it, and everything else, in the pack next time...:foot:
Guess I'm done "testing" this thing. Looks like it'll do everything I want it to.
