New pants for YCS Karda/ My latest disturbing creation

Thanks Norm,
The light brown sheath is for ths smaller karda from a YCS, the darker one is for the larger. The black sheath actually fits both of my 9" YCS kardas.

Heat treating O-1 is pretty easy. We'll have to wait for performance reports from Leatherface to see if heat treating it WELL is easy. :o Hope I got it right.

All you do is heat it with an oxy-acetylene torch til a magnet doesn't stick to it, then edge quench in 125 degree oil. Grind off the scale, and temper twice in the oven at 400 degrees for an hour.

Dave. Sweet knife bro. You already know I love the sheaths. Awesome work. Man I'd love to come up and learn from you for a weekend. Awesome. You got scales ready for that nessmuck? I got walnut if you need it. Teak too. Curly maple out the rear. Lemme know.

Steve? Of course, nice guy AND talented. You are very annoying.

Damned right! I feel like such a dweeb compared to you guys, being barely able to belt sand and sharpen. Harden, temper, finish grind, leather? Maybe some distant day...

But good news, in my personal belief system we are all eternal beings, so there is no question that _someday_ I will meet and even surpass this work! I may be a woman living on another planet in the year 3006, but it's gonna happen!

I'll be sure to post pics...

Norm? Wear something low-cut and tight, will you?:D

Did somebody say Nessmuk?

Leatherface profiled it and set the bevels. I hardened, tempered, and finish ground. Oh and sharpened. :D

Guys the looks of that knife can be traced right to the amount of talent that Steve has...trust me on this one!!!

wow those are really great, I have a few YCS but in the original sheaths they really desirve something like that, and those a person could be proud to wear.

I would like to have one of those. What kind of scales are going on that one?

Thanks Mike...If ya want one shoot me a PM with your addy and I will send ya the tracing for it to go by...It is basically a pattern that Steve sent me of a 1920's era Nessy that I added more "upper belly" to...err I think that is the correct way of putting it..lol

Andy...Thanks bro...As far along as you are it is doubtful that I could teach you much of anything...however if ya want to, when me and honeybear get settled you are more than welcome!!

As for scales...I am pretty much undecided...I want to go with bone, but the cost is a little high right now for me...Prolly decide tonite

Any suggestions??

Awesome! I remember that carved horn handle YCS karda very well, and missed it by a hair. I ended up getting a similar one in carved karam, but there's something special about that one. That knife and the sheath just look great. Steve, I love it how you have a different style sheath for each knife. Makes them easy to ID. Are all 3 knives about the same size? In other words, are any of the knives interchangeable with the other sheaths?

Wonderful knives and great work, and fantastic pics as always. Thanks for sharing!

Norm

Norm...THANKS!!!!The larger 2 will pretty much work in the Black tooled one...I also did a crossdraw/SOB rig for the larger one as well...It is a prototype but seems to work pretty good for it's intended purpose...I tested it before i sent it to Steve and again it worked ok for me...Remember though that it was made for a right handed person:D

Couldnt agree more about the nice guy thing...And VERy talented!!!

Err Norm I am thinking leather and spandex...what are your feelings??;)

I did a quick etch of Leather's knife, and found that I didn't have much differential in the hardening. So I took a torch and gently heated the spine to soften it. I'll temper again in the oven to get any stresses out. You can tell the hardness by the color. They are very vivid. The kamis use this method when hardening. A quick polish tonight, and off to Leather in the morning.
