New pants

I'll be posting a woodsmonkey review of hte craghoppers in the next two days

Wellllllll maybe not the next two days since then, But I did just submit the article. I REALLY loved these pants. Lifetime warranty and smartly laid out. They are my new favorite woods pants I think. Despite the Hype, its all in the pants.

I'll post the article once it is up.

Some of the best outdoor's pants I have found were JC Penney store brand casuals. Earth tone colors, heavy canvas fabric, cargo pockets, as well as deep slash pockets, and plenty of room.
I bought some last year on sale for $9

I reviewed the 5.11 Tac Lite Pro pants and the Tru Spec pants here:

I wear both on my hikiing, hunting, and camping adventures and really like the Tru Spec's for the money. The stay away from cotton theme sounds well covered but those two pants are nice for my uses. The only thing I do is when I am done working at the base camp and the fire is sustaining, I put on my cotton Dickies so that I can sit next to the fire and relax without worrying about melting the Tru Specs or the 5.11's.

I have a pair of Kuhl Nylon/Cotton mix pants that have been great.

My biggest issue with the all synthetic pants is the constant swishing sound made as they move. I like the look of the Craghoppers & Railriders - how are they at noise?

No more noticeable than my dickies pants (cotton denim)

Sounds promising. I tried to go all synthetic many years ago, but I felt & sounded like a garbage bag crinkling. Best compromise I have found are pants that are synthetic next to your body & cotton on the outside.

I am anxiously awaiting your review. Plus I just know that you, wearing Bear Grylls stuff, are sure to provide some funny moments.

I have four pairs of brown 5.11 NYLON pants I bought from LA Police Gear on closeout about two years ago for something like 5 bucks each. Medium weight nylon so they are not flimsy at all and very comfortable.

Just wanted to note:

all nylon
15.9 ounces
stretchy
ridiculously durable (even for nylon)

LIFETIME WARRANTY!

The LL Bean overland guide pants are awesome. They are polyester so they dry fast and they have 4% lycra for some stretch. Plus they have an articulated crotch which is great for climbing and mobility.

These have some serious promise.
I tried out the Rail Riders Rock Jeans. The material was great midweight/heavy weight nylon that had the feel of cotton and no "swish".
The material was great, but the cut was way to slim for my "athletic" torso. A lifetime of soccer, cycling and now weight lifting has resulted in rather large legs etc. So, I exchanged them for a pair of their VersiTac pants in the lightweight material. I should have them tomorrow, so i will update then.

Rail Riders Veritac Light pants. Designed as a tactical pant, I personally see them as a technical pant. I am not military, but enjoy the outdoors (hiking and rock climbing). In a word, awesome pants. The material is light weight yet durable, and the numerous reinforcements are made from Cordura and are tough. The fit is great for me (see above).
Pros: lightweight, tough, quick dry 100% nylon, roomy but not loose fit.
Cons: slight "swish" sound, must wear a belt due to elastic in waist.

Rail Riders customer service is A+. This is the 3rd pair of pants I have tried out to get a good fit, and they have been fantastic with helping work though issues and sending pants back and forth. I have paid for one pair, but they have sent me three pairs in the last week so I make sure to get a good fit, and I will be returning the two extra pair.

One of my favorites are Wrangler Riggs http://www.riggsworkwear.com/Catalog/men/bottoms/ripstop/3W060
Fit me great ,wear good and don't cost a lot.

 I bought a pair of these a few months ago, and I love them. The extra gusset in the crotch makes them great squating down and stepping up high. I also like the fact that the cargo pockets snap. Because I hate velcro. The cargo pockets are in a good position too, not to low like some. Its perfect for clipping my para. This is my perferred method when I am in the woods to keep my knife from falling out.

5.11 pants are great. the fit could be better in the waste area (mainly bc of my build). i am short and stocky and a bit over weight. other than that they wear great. good movement and tough as nails
