OK..so I'm really anal when it comes to stuff like this.
Just got my first para2 in the mail...and I love it!
Out of the box there was a few spots of the finish off underneath the cmp s30v.
Is this consistent for the finish to have small flaws or should I get another one?

I know I'm going to be using it and it's going to be getting more stuff like that...but still. It's just how I am. haha

It's not normal for there to be flaws like that. Did you buy the knife off ebay or through a reputable vendor?

I bought it from a knife dealer on ebay because it was the only place I could find one with the black finish.

I thought so....

I'm pretty iffy about buying knives off ebay because a lot of those "dealers" are guys that work out of their homes. I don't think it's uncommon for these people to carry/use these knives for a while and then sell them as brand new. Not saying that is exactly what happened, but it's very unusual for a brand new knife to have scratch marks like that.

Ya...I'm gonna return it and buy from somewhere else...and make sure the knife is perfect before they send it.
It seems these things always happen to me...when a lot of people probably wouldn't care haha

Are you planning on using the knife? If it was a user, that wouldn't bother me at all but if you're thinking that you might end up selling it in case you don't like it - then it's probably a good idea to return it.

I'm probably going to use it...but I am just really weird when it comes to stuff like this. I won't be able to enjoy it knowing it came flawed...I know I'm crazy :)

I bought a new Para-2 from a proper dealer. It was flawless in every sense except the edge which was just about dull at the middle of the belly. I mean fit and finish were perfect. Centered, perfect. Lock-up, perfect. Scales, perfect. The sound it makes when it locks up is just amazing. But the damn thing was as dull as an Old Hickory from the factory. So it treated like and Old Hickory, I put my own screaming sharp edge on it with my stones and have kept it that way with my Sharpmaker.

All other aspects of the knife were so perfect that there was no way I was going to fuss over the edge, especially since user knives end up dull soon enough anyway.

If it were me, I would look at the rest of the knife carefully. If everything else is perfect...and I am here to say that the one I got was otherwise flippin' PERFECT...then I'd keep it. All those other things you probably can't fix (maybe centering, maybe not). That edge is going to get dull some day and you'll correct that flaw...or do like me and reprofile it now.

I wouldn't like knowing that it had a flaw, but that doesn't affect its performance in any way. Once you have used the knife a small flaw in the finish won't matter. I would not send it back because of the additional trouble it would take. IOW for me just the drive to the post office is more trouble than that little flaw is worth. Then there is repackaging the package, dealing with the seller, lots of time delay, etc. You have it in your hands now so you can start actually carrying and using it.

But as someone else said, if you think you might not use the knife much and you might sell it to someone else in the future, the little liability of that flaw will stay with you through when you sell the knife.

I know financially it's stupid and a waste of time...but it's just how I am. I won't be able to enjoy it.
It's a fairly expensive knife, it should be perfect at least when I open it up.

Thanks guys! I mean, I guess I already knew the answer to this...just curious about the quality control on these. (I have high standards)

I know how the OP feels. If I paid full price for a "brand new knife", it better be brand new without any flaws on it. Otherwise I should have paid a discounted price since it's technically a "blem".

223, IMHO, it is not stupid or a waste of time. If I am spending money on an item, you better believe I want it to be perfect. I just got a Case knife, and while it was almost perfect, there was a faint scratch on the blade. Even though I plan on using it and the scratch doesnt effect a thing, I sent it back. Just like you said, its not a cheap knife. Make sure it is exactly what you want. Good luck

You ain't alone....I'm the same way. Can't tell ya how many times I sent back my zt350 before I got one that was ok by me!

I just feel like an idiot because I mean, I am gonna use it. The finish will eventually get a flaw...I dunno. haha

Thanks guys!

It's cool to mess it up...yourself, but not for it to come in like that. Like I just said...you ain't alone.

Oh I have the same knife...it's my edc, love it...can't tell it's there.

Ebay might be the problem...I don't know.
I've contacted several sellers and they say they don't want to do business with someone expecting perfection as the knives are prone to flaws...ya ok.
I'd rather not spend another $100 just to guarantee no flaws...but I guess that's the dilemma here haha

Is that the black DLC coated one? If so mine's the same. I attribute it to what happened with they put the edge on it. I did NOT get mine from ebay.

Ya, it's the black DLC. You have the same marks in the same place? So perhaps I am over-reacting?

Who cares dude?! You got your knife and if you plan to use it, you'll make a mark like that in no time.
Really man, it's not like you're gonna make a million bux saving this item in mint condition until you're 80.

I wish I could look at it that simply :) haha.
It's not about making money on it at all...im just anal and a perfectionist. It sucks
