Ya, the marks near the s30v.
Found a seller who said he'll look through his stock and pick out one of the best ones for me...I think that's my best option so I can just stop thinking about it :)

223 -- I know man, I am Mr. Super-inspectionalist myself when it comes to my newly purchased blades. Nothing gets passed me. I totally dig.

I feel the same way at times. Even if my plan is to purchase it for edc, if it has a little mark on the handle or blade, it will bother me to no end.

Are there any marks on the pocket clip? This knife may have been used.

Yea, give that pocket clip a good look.
Spyderco isn't perfect, but they're close, and that coating is tough.
I don't touch Ebay anymore.
Even though I would not think twice about stickin' that knife in my pocket.

For what you probably paid for the knife I would want as close as possible to perfections for a mass produced knife. If you are going to use it though, give it a good once over and then decide.

Is it the consensus here that production knives like Benchmade and Spyderco should come absolutely flawless from the factory. Not just being perfectly functional but
to have absolutely no cosmetic flaws no matter how small they are. I get that $100 is a lot of money for a knife but a lot also goes into making that knife. And if 97% of the
knife is perfect I just don't think the 3% flaw is enough to warrant sending it back especially if it doesn't affect performance. But thats just my opinion and I respect the OPs
opinion and hope he ends up satisfied.

I see your point, and I do agree...it's just how I am. I would be feeling the same if it was a $30 knife. And I have had plenty of $30 knives that had perfect looking finish, etc. That's why I feel that this one should be the same.

The seller was very understandable and said that should definitely not be there, and I found another seller who is going to hand pick me one...so all should be good!

Well I gotta admit...those knicks near the ricasso are a different matter. That IS a flaw...a real for sure flaw. Those marks along the edge of the coating...not so much. I call that a blem or a "scratch and dent" model.

What nicks?

Dude...you're the anal retentive perfectionist! There sure look like nicks in the coating on the ricasso to me. Maybe it's pocket lint? Look at you knife man...or at your picture.

haha...I'm confused it you're talking about the main problem that I brought up here or something else.
There are nicks out of the finish underneath the "30V" on the bottom of the blade. That was the only flaw I saw...

Let me give my impersonation of a large number of this site's users. "Miniscule aesthetic defect? Knife is broken."

I think we all thought you were worried about the scratch pattern along the edge of the coating. All of that said, my original advice stands. If all of those other things are perfect...which on mine it was...keep it and use it...it'll get messed up eventually. Hell, you'll probably break it or loose it man.

I don't see a scratch pattern...I mean, the edge of any of these blades isn't coated so it has to end somewhere...
Plus in my original post I said I was concerned about the nicks underneath where the steel type is printed/engraved

my advice...forget about such a slight imperfection and put it in your pocket. it wont be visible there ;)
