I just walked up the hill from the shop and man I'm worn out! We have gotten about 8" or more of snow today and it was above the top of my boots on the way back. I'll be snowboarding to the shop now! :D

Today I mostly ground the flats on the current batch - S7, A2, 52100 and more.,.. It takes as long to grind the flats as the main grind or more. I'm at 600 grit on everything and will bring them up to 2000 grit tomorrow then back down to a nice satiny 400.

Going to work earlier today! :D We have some very tall trees here... the shop looks tiny.

The view out of my shop window.... nice snow today that is really light and sticky.

Kiridashis... left hand grind, rh grind and a custom in the second pic - a tanto too! The tanto is not yet spoken for.

Thanks!

I hear you on the snow! It looks nice but that is a few hours of snowblowing to make it down the driveway. Snowboarding is fun though (when I can go!) and the snow will help a lot on the gas and heating bill, the snow really insulates everything. I still prefer it ove Texas summers but want to move, in town nearby they barely get any snow.

Glorious!
Dang... you can grind!
Have a nice night Daniel.

Thanks! Clean grinds are a big deal to me, I am trying to focus more on handles now but grinds have to be right.

One thing that you can't really see in pics is edge geometry in relation to the grind, it is a big deal to me to have it like I want it.

...as an example a full flat grind is nice but what is the point if the edge is .04" thick? A zero bevel scandi will out cut a thicker full flat all day long. I never worry about styles or extremes in that regard but the geometry must be right.

I know that when a customer feels the knife and cuts with it that is what will bring them back for more if they are a serious knife user. ...or if the knife has to be used in an emergency to pry and it does the trick.

That seax is beastly! That custom dashi looks pretty sweet too.

Thanks! The Saex makes me want to chop through a wall or something!

I think it would be really nice for splitting kindling and camp tasks too. Even with the pointy tip all the weight is forward due to the tapered grind. The edge at the tip is really thick for strength and power while the main cutting edge is a bit slicier for versatility and great weight distribution.

Great Winter Pics, the Kiridashis looks very Good.

Thanks! The dashis are just rough ground there too, I'll take them up to 600 later for no scratch marks.

Yo Daniel... I sure like your custom dashi!! I'm always watching to see if one like that comes up for sale with a leather sheath. Your S7 5/16 pocket cleaver is still one of my favorite knives. Keep up the great work and thank you!

Love the custom 'dashi. Maybe you can do a run of that style sometime next year. :D
You need to rig up a tow rope to pull you up to your house, when you start snow boarding to the shop. :p

I sent you an email.
Good talking to you and we are getting close! :D

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind on the leather, sounds nice. I hope to make the dashis a permanent model too.

I have a pocket cleaver in the works like you described! It has a triple swedge.

That looks very nice! Looks like it could handle any task you put it up to. Awesome work!

Much appreciated! That one (the Saex) is getting 3 color canvas micarta, I have never seen it used before. Black, green and natural/tan.

Thanks! I made one kind of like it as my first dashi and really like the style. This one was a custom order, I should do some more!

We have seriously thought about the tow rope! The hill across from my shop had a ski lift on the north face, we get a ton of snow and it stays.

I will probably build a ski jump if the conditions are right, I almost have enough snow for a big one! I once built a snow halfpipe that went to my roof, it was way cool.

It is snowing hard right now, we have about 50 feet of visibility!

Biggest Wharnie that I've ever seen. Beautiful pics too. You gonna enter National Geographic photo contest or something ; )

It is a beast! I'm getting that one ready for 12-21 just in case. :D

Thanks on the pics! I used to take lots of scenic pics of old mines and terrain here, I had offers to buy them but gave them away for fun. Lots of cool Caribbean stuff from when I lived there too. I should see if I can find any, most are stored away on my old hard drive...

I had a buddy who took photos for National Geographic in the 80's, man that guy was wild! They did some cool stuff.
