This is the second of the two damascus knives I've been working on.

1084 / 15N20 Random pattern damascus by Dan Seaver.
Hollow ground on a 10"wheel.
7 3/4" OAL 3 1/2" blade length from tip to plunge.
warm vinegar etch.
Australian flame or lace Sheoak from BurlSource. (this wood is awsome!! looks like it's on fire)
Tung oil finish (in progress.)
stainless pin and tubes
zig zag pattern file work

Love that Sheoak. So warm vinegar brought out the damascus pattern?I add vinegar to my etchant solution but i had no idea it would work so well alone.

Yeah this was etched with straight white vinegar. I warmed it up on the stove top (stunk up the whole house lol) then poured it in a drinking glass and stood the knife, blade down in the glass. it took 3 hours to get to where I wanted it.

The pics are mediocre quality which slowed my reply. First thought was "I'd really like to see that in person!".
What I see so far looks very promising.

Here's a new group of pictures. much better light and wasn't rushed. I'm still in the process of doing the tung oil finish. This wood is thirsty! it soaks up the oil as fast as I can wipe it on. looking very good tho. there's some smudged on the ricasso that I couldnt get off. I'll try acetone once I'm all done cuz I'm sure I'll get more on there.

Thanks. The filework is pretty simple just a basic zig zag. And I really like this sheoak im a fan of orange so this wood is now one of my favorites.

Hey I love you knife and in fact it has caused me to change the material of the handle for the knife I'm making. I'm curious where you got yours, so beautiful and has good lace and wood contrast.
