Hello all. Just tried to register a new account, but already had a lurker account since '06!

Last week I was at a big box store & picked up a Camillus Carnivore X because I couldn't resist! Plus I also needed a large knife / small machete for yard work. The seatbelt cutter works great on vines but the lame sawback has already bitten my calf.

I became fascinated by the small (5" overall, 2" blade) secondary trimming knife & started thinking about lightweight neck knives with similar dimensions. The affordable standard option seems to be a CRKT Minimalist & several online reviews suggest the Wharncliffe.

I purchased a CRKT Pilar in December & was impressed by the ergos of Jesper Voxnaes' design. He also designed the following neck knife called the Bita.

Years ago I purchased the original Boker Subcom folder. Now there's a new fixed blade design (second version) called the Boker SFB.

These 3 neck knives are all affordable, around 5" overall length & weight less than 2 oz w/ sheath. I would prefer a 3 finger handle rather than a 2 finger handle. Not affiliated with any knife companies or sellers.

Thanks for reading. Any other affordable suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :)

Great Scagel's ghost, why?!? Gadzooks.

As far as small knives... F fishiker beat me to it. Woodswalker.

I have a Cold Steel Secret Edge...very light and decent quality for the price.

Depending on what your idea of "affordable" is (we have no idea what it is...) the Fallkniven WM1 is a great, very often overlooked neck knife.

I've had bad luck with those CRKTs. One had a scale crack and they've fallen out of the sheaths many times.

The small AG Russell that I want to pick up is the Hunter Scalpel. Can't recommend it, obviously.

I voted for the Minimalist Wharncliffe. Wharncliffe blades are amazing, they are super easy to sharpen and very useful for EDC tasks.

No experience with any of them, but I've heard quite a few folks praise the Minimalist, both CRKT's and Folt's original.

The only neck knife I own is a Tops Mini Scandi Knife(MSK). It's a little heavy and thick to be carried around daily, but I absolutely love everything else about it. It's the knife I take along with me for short hikes through the forest. Plus it's a great little whittler.

Thanks for all these great affordable A G Russel recommendations. I've always associated the brand with fancy gentleman's folders & hunting knives.

There's something extra neat about that little Hunter Scalpel -- the sheath was designed by the late, great Blackie Collins.

Oh, so that's where I saw them! There was a youtube vlogger that linked to some used vintage blades for sale. Think they wanted $50 for a lightly used example. Carveat Emptor
