Which neck knife?

No experience with any of them, but I've heard quite a few folks praise the Minimalist, both CRKT's and Folt's original.

The only neck knife I own is a Tops Mini Scandi Knife(MSK). It's a little heavy and thick to be carried around daily, but I absolutely love everything else about it. It's the knife I take along with me for short hikes through the forest. Plus it's a great little whittler.

Still remember the first time I got a Mora. The scandi grind was a revelation!

Oh, so that's where I saw them! There was a youtube vlogger that linked to some used vintage blades for sale. Think they wanted $50 for a lightly used example. Carveat Emptor

No. A lightly used vintage Blackie Collins knife is valuable. That is not a rip off.

These AG Russell Hunter Scalpels use a sheath originally designed by Blackie Collins. Different thing.

What you are saying is like saying a $1200 Loveless drop point is a ripoff because you saw a drop point for $30.

Thanks for the clarification. The used knife I saw was actually a different model called the Buddy System.

My vote for best inexoensive neck knife is the SoG Snarl. It is a production version of Jason Brous’s semi custom Silent Soldier neck knife. The rings make the handle comfortable and very secure in many different grips. Please atleast consider it.

Great choice. I've also looked at similar designs from Brous, Boker & Steel Will

Yes, the SoG snarl is a production version of the Brous Silent Soldier.

There is the Boker Magyar which is similar, however unlike the snarl or brous your fingers are not designed to go through the ring. The SoG Snarl is good as a utility knife as well as a last ditch self defense blade.

Or the Boker Newton Martin kbit

If you can afford it I highly recommend the Fred Perrin La Griffe. It is however a self defense blade first and utility second. It is ground very thin whereas the Snarl is thicker ground and more robust for utility tasks.

La griffe, an all time favourite.

The reason I bring up neck knives with ring grips is because when using such a small knife your ability to take a comfortable grip is paramount to its performance.

Of the knives you listed the CRKT minimalist is probably the best when it comes to this. It is reknowned for being very comfortable to use. Of those you listed the minimalist would get my vote.

Thanks for all your great suggestions. I ended up ordering an A.G. Russel Hunter Scalpel because it's probably the lightest at 0.5 oz (knife only). I also ordered 2 other micro fixed blades from that god forsaken auction site, but I'll post about those some other day.
