New posts/edits being blocked or timing out, anyone?

Try clearing your cookies, maybe restart your computer. See if that doesn't help.

Thanks Esav. Rebooted just a while ago, and just now cleared cookies with no change.

This looks like the same thing I've seen before, with the issue seemingly going away on it's own after waiting a while (though I'm still waiting, this time). My last post in the Maint forum was just a one-line, after failing to get the editor to post a paragraph-length reply.

I was mainly wondering if any others are having the same issue, as I'm only seeing one new post from anybody else in the same time frame (lots of 'observers' seen listed at the bottom of the Maint page, however).

I have had the same sort of problem myself. Usually around midnight. Different error signals, no post goes through, often no response anywhere on the site. Come back a half hour later and it's working again. Spark is working on a new server system because what we've got just can't keep up with the workload.

Attempted again this morning, to no avail.

I finally went into my 'General Settings' on BF, and changed my selected editor interface to 'Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls', instead of 'Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing', and was able to post the one item that stubbornly refused to cooperate with me yesterday. Odd thing is, I made several other posts and/or edits in other threads and other sub-forums with no issues, using the original editor selection (WYSIWYG). I have no idea why this is so, but I guess I'll have to wait & see if this happens to me again.

This is very strange. I've been trying to edit a sticky thread for days, i get into it, make the needed changes (which results in less characters and words over all), and when I click submit, it hands and gives me a database error. It's very frustrating for us in particular because when we need to change how something is worded or add a line for clarification, it cannot be done. Again, I've tried on various machines, wirelessly, hardwired, from both home and work. It just isn't possible in my circumstance.

I tried Chrome, Firefox and IE10 browsers yesterday, with the same results on all. When I finally changed my Editor selection this morning, I was using Firefox at the time, and it worked. I suspect if I'd done the same while using the other browsers, they'd likely work too.

In retrospect, I'd previously noticed that the WYSIWYG editor didn't ever consistently perform as such anyway, for me. Under the assumption that it's supposed to display smileys/emoticons, photos and other graphics within the editor window, it seems like it only did so occasionally for me. More often than not, the editor window always just displayed the links for photos, or the text equivalents for the emoticons. This is why I suspected the text formatting may be making the editor choke on posts/replies at times, and why I decided to try a different editor selection in my BF settings.

I'm having similar problems today. When I've tried to post or edit on a number of occasions, the browser eventually just timed out. No change to the thread or post.

ETA: This one went through just fine and edited okay, but I'm still having trouble editing another post. I'll try Firefox.

ETA again: Firefox did edit the trouble post. No idea what the issue is, but I tried to edit in Chrome about 6 or 7 times to no avail.

Haven't been able to post replies or edit posts in the Maint forum ( http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/794-Maintenance-Tinkering-amp-Embellishment ) for the last couple hours or so. Getting 'page not available' errors when attempting to do so (also if attempting to use the Advanced Editor). Wondering if I'm the only one noticing the issue, or are others having trouble as well?

David

Been having similar issues from time to time.

I've tried with Chrome, Fire Fox, Safari, various versions of IE, and Ironware, same results. In my case, a single post that needs editing is too long as it is. I tried shortening the posted material, and adding one section at a time (in work chunks) and I got timed out.

I've had the same trouble. Switched to Basic Editor with no improvement. Can post if reply is short. Text talk might be in vogue at BFC. :D

I don't know if this trouble stems from timing out from packet size or not getting acknowledgment of packet receipt.

I can post if I limit the number of characters being posted.

Ken (The Virginian) and I have spent HOURS trying to get an informative, yet lengthy show review into the C&HK forum. He couldn't post, and after I spent an hour, neither could I.

Here's his first post of the problems.

W.T.F.?

Ditto what Coop posted. I tried overall for more than an hour last night and today. At first I thought it might be some weird problem with text formatting cutting and pasting from MS Word. So I tried cutting and pasting from a simple text (.txt) file and had the same problems. Then I just tried typing it in by hand. Once I get past a hundred words or so, it gives me the same "page not available" errors. It is extremely frustrating, and I have finally just given up.

Me, too. I had a short post with helpful hints for a new member. Could not get that forum to accept a post, yet other forums worked fine.

As I understand it, Spark knows there are conflicts based on server capacity and he's looking into a more capable system.

Bogus. I tried again with this post. It just sits there with the 'wheel of frustration' spinning..

I can apparently create new threads here and reply to only certain posts, but can't do either on EDC Forums.

I realize that's a different forum, but maybe the reason is the same, whatever it is, and surely there are members of both who can maybe shed some light.

Tapatalk is of no help. They won't even answer messages.

My user name is the same for both, so the forums are both open in Tapatalk. I have wondered if Tapatalk possibly doesn't like that.

Any ideas?

Yes, I have an idea, Bladeforums has no interest in tracking EDCforums problems and we are not going to have a discussion here about them.

When I was posting the Custom Knife History thread I had to do some in parts....

But posting more last night was about the same for me as coop & virginian said......

Got to were I couldn't even do one line at a time? Very aggravating...:grumpy:

This question was general in nature and acknowledged that the problem was in a different forum.

It was a last resort since no one from there was responding.

I would post the solution for everyone's benefit, but wouldn't want to impose on anyone.

If the mods agree that the original post was in noncompliance or inconsiderate, please feel free to delete and notify me.

I did not join to be criticized for attempting to share something I believed to be of universal benefit.

If that is the attitude of the majority, others, please let me know so I can make an informed decision to stay or leave.

Thanks
