A certain site has the new Pro Lites in clip point and tanto models no serrations. FRN and stonewashed. Are these any good? I have no CS knives yet and thought this would be a good way to add a couple to my small collection. FRN makes me blah but They seem to be solid knives .

These FRN are called Grivory which are surprisingly dturdy for what they are. And yes I believe these would mke excellent beater knives

I wasn't going to take them out of the bags honestly

You mean just to keep them in their boxes? Never using them?

What's the difference between these and the voyagers? Do they lack steel liners?

You should totally use it... I think it's the most beater design of the CS lineup.
Or is your bag referring to the online shopping cart?

No liners at all(btw Voyagers got aluminum liners, which is light). Prolite construction are identical to the finnwolf, which is also full grivory handle with no liner. The screw "chicago" so it's not screwed into the backspacer. Tbh I think this is a must better construction.

Cool. I dig the handle shape over the newer voyagers. Hope they release a large version 4" blade. My endura seems kind of flimsy with blade play out of the box.

I'm really liking mine so far. Here's a recent thread with some opinions: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1392554-ProLite-First-impressions.

Can anyone explain the price on these to me? I just ordered mine, and it cost me $30. A fine price, true, but...this knife was advertised as a more affordable knife than their other triad lock knives, which is what they used to explain the downgrade in steel to the 4116. But...how is this any more affordable than the AUS-8 medium Voyagers or the Finn Wolf, which were pretty much the same price and featured AUS-8?

Might be the dealer you got it from?

Nope, $30 is the going price for them at almost every site I've found, except for a few places where they were a little higher.
Hmm thats weird. But possibly due to it being new the prices are slightly higher and would fall as time goes on

Medium voyagers are being closed out by many, because they are no longer in the catalog. That explains the price drop for them. Finn Wolf MSRP is $15 more than the Pro Lites, so seriously doubt any body has them priced the same.

You could find Medium Voyagers for around $30 long before they went on closeout. Only reason I don't have one is cause I didn't want one. As for the Finn Wolf, the fact that I got my Finn Wolf for $30 kinda trumps your serious doubt in my book(I got mine on the river site I can't name, but BladeHQ has them for $35 currently).

Prolite is new, when finnwolf first came out it was close to 40 or more. It also depends on their popularity and availability. If stocks go out quickly, no reason to cut their price. Just need a little bit of patience.

Also, tbh with the time spent arguing about a few dollars here, most people could have earned that back.

It has nothing to do with affordability. I could buy a dozen of the things if I wanted that many, that was never the issue. My question was why is Cold Steel using price to justify the swap from AUS-8 to the 4116, when for the same price, you can find other triad lock knives with the AUS-8.

Perhaps you are right and the prices on these will fall in a bit...though from my experience, there's a certain plateau that knife prices won't fall much from, too, and it's right around $30. Look at Ontario's Utilitac 2. When it first came out a couple years ago, people were raving about them, they often sold out, and the price was right around $26. In the 2 years since then, they've dropped to...right around $24.
