It has nothing to do with affordability. I could buy a dozen of the things if I wanted that many, that was never the issue. My question was why is Cold Steel using price to justify the swap from AUS-8 to the 4116, when for the same price, you can find other triad lock knives with the AUS-8.
Perhaps you are right and the prices on these will fall in a bit...though from my experience, there's a certain plateau that knife prices won't fall much from, too, and it's right around $30. Look at Ontario's Utilitac 2. When it first came out a couple years ago, people were raving about them, they often sold out, and the price was right around $26. In the 2 years since then, they've dropped to...right around $24.
That's pretty much my point also. I am saturated with Voyagers and they are still available up here at low prices if one is interested. I see little to attract me toward these new folders in 4116 steel. I already saw some of my Voyagers as utilitarian ''beaters'' or users anyway. That was part of the charm of Voyagers. Maybe C.S. saw that the AUS8 lines are too close to ''good enough'' for many users that they would compete with the newer steels and reduce sales. So the lower end really inexpensive line was brought out to make the differentiation clearer ?
